Eastbourne Rangers 7-0 Catsfield

Eastbourne Rangers ESFL side sent a message out to the rest of the division after dismissing Catsfield in the most breathtaking fashion.

The home side found themselves 3 goals up inside 15 minutes, the first a Jamie Strong penalty after Lee Chapmam was brought down by the keeper with Strong notching up his second moments later with a team goal worthy of a much higher standard.

Strong then turned supplier as Chapman headed in from a freekick, with Strong then adding another two before the interval courtesy of assists from Chapman and Julian Waters.

The second half saw rangers very wasteful in front of goal before the away team were reduced to 10 men, the Catsfield skipper guilty of an appalling challenge on Strong on the halfway line.

Strong, not to be put off, then added a further two goals to complete the first double hatrick in rangers history which was more than enough to see rangers over the line.

This performance was one of great quality, one that rangers should be very proud of with the whole team superb, hungry, and determined to compete in the league this season. That being said, there's always room for improvement so let's keep our feet on the ground. Dave Craig Bennett-Tomlin was an absolute rock at the back for rangers with Steve Reeves also outstanding, but man of the match was awarded to Jamie Strong.

The management team would like to thank Ricky Curran for attending the game today who was regrettably an unused substitute.

Eastbourne Rangers 3-1 Little Chelsea

Rangers deservedly lifted the Eastbourne Junior Cup trophy in a heated game under the lights.

Rangers took the lead when a Julian Waters freekick wasn't dealt with be the Chelsea defence or keeper, with a defender heading the ball into his own net. Rangers rode their luck at times as Chelsea rattled the rangers bar but the red and blacks stuck to their game plan which saw them go in at the interval with their noses in front.

Little Chelsea then hit the post early on in the second period and rangers had a great chance to double their lead from the spot when Benjamin Jesson rattled the bar with a penalty.

Rangers were not put off and continued to push for a further goal which came when Sean Hardie scored a delightful goal from range to give rangers that all important breathing space.

Rangers then found themselves in dreamland when Connor Sullivan hit a rocket of a free kick which burst the Little Chelsea net only to see Little Chelsea awarded a dubious penalty after a debatable foul on the edge of the rangers area, which saw the impressive Tony Derese pick up his second yellow card of the night.

The Chelsea player smashed the ball into the net to give the experienced campaigners a glimmer of hope but the red and blacks saw the game out to deservedly lift the trophy.

Everyone was exceptional tonight but both rangers centre halves deserve many of the plaudits, with Dave Bennett-Tomlin awarded the MOM award chosen by the Eastbourne FA.

Superb, just superb - this win ensuring that rangers have won trophies for the last four seasons.

Our thanks to all the supporters including club sponsors who cheered the lads to victory.

Crowhurst - Eastbourne Rangers 6 pointer

Rangers travel to Crowhurst this week in what is truly a massive game for both clubs as both sides look to avoid the drop to division three. In the reverse fixture at the end of September 2013, rangers secured their first league win of the season with a 3-2 victory thanks to a hatrick from Jamie Strong. Crowhurst then suffered a further two league defeats at the hands of Hawkhurst United and Catsfield before securing a vial 5-2 home victory against Herstmonceux. A further two league defeats followed to Catsfield and JC Tackleway with Crowhurst failing to score in both games. The next two fixtures saw Crowhurst take 4 points from 6 with a draw against basement club Ninfield followed by an impressive 4-3 home win against Wittersham.

A trip to Wadhurst awaited them in the New Year with the home side pulling off a comfortable 3-0 win while Crowhurst then secured all three points against Windsor without kicking a ball, with Windsor unable to field a side. Three weeks later, Windsor recorded a 4-1 win in the reverse league fixture while last weekend, Herstmonceux registered a 3-1 win which has condemned Crowhurst to second bottom of division 2, with rangers just one place above them on goals scored.

Their league record reads P15 W4 D2 L9 F26 A38 Pts14 and they have 3 scorers on five league goals each – Jan Bailey, Tom Andrew and Mark Blanche.

It’s clearly been a tough season for both teams with a lot hinging on this game, particularly for Crowhurst who have a run-in similar to that of NorwichCity in the premier league…..

After a superb performance at second placed Wadhurst last week, rangers will be full of confidence for this game especially as they dominated much of the game Washwell Lane with the home side very fortunate to bag all three points.

Let’s do this fella’s, time to stand and be counted. Three points for the taking….

Eastbourne Rangers 2-1 Catsfield

On what was a massive game for rangers, the red and blacks did not dissapoint. The triple champions took an early lead when a Martin Bell goal kick deceived the away teams back four which saw Benjamin Jesson expertly finish over a stranded goalkeeper. Catsfield levelled just before half time but quick thinking from Connor Sullivan gifted Jesson his second goal of the game on 57 minutes which was enough to seal 3 valuable points.

Suberb effort from the entire team today with the back four solid especially the centre half pairing of Dave Bennett-Tomlin and Tom Tribe.

But the MOM was awarded to Sullivan for his superb work rate along side match winner Jesson up front.

This result propels rangers to SIXTH in the division 2 table.

Top work fella's.

Rangers return to league action this week for the first time since mid December 2013 when they welcome Catsfield to the field of dreams. The two sides locked horns back in October which saw rangers romp to an impressive 4-1 away victory at Catsfield Rec. Since losing to rangers however, Catsfield have picked up form in the league as well as some new players along the way. A 2-1 home win against Crowhurst preceded two 2-2 away draws against Hersmonceux and Wittersham for this weeks opponents. They then impressively edged out Wadhurst 6-5 (aet) in the Hastings FA Junior Cup before completing the league double over Crowhurst with a 2-0 victory at Crowhurst Rec. There good run came to an end when league favourites Little Chelsea secured a 3-2 while a dour 0-0 home draw against Herstmonceux followed a week later. Catsfields last competitive fixture saw then nocth up a superb 3-0 home win against Hawkhurst United – way back on December 14th 2013.Their league record reads P11 W3 D3 L5 F17 A23 Pts12 and player manager Tony Luke is their scorer on five league goals.

With Catsfields lack of games in nearly three months, this will surely give rangers the edge with recent friendlies and last weeks narrow cup win against Eastbourne Athletic undoubtedly keeping the squad sharp. However, it should be noted that their only defeat since losing to rangers in October was at the hands of league leaders Little Chelsea so this will be a very tight game.

In what has been a pattern for this season, rangers have several players unavailable through injury, but a recent boost has been the signing of Tony Derese after he impressed greatly in training on Wednesday. And after being cup tied last week, Steve Green will also be pushing to make his long awaited rangers competitive debut.

Early nights for the squad this week, this is a MUST WIN game if rangers are to have a fighting chance of staying in this division.

Eastbourne Rangers 1-0 Eastbourne Athletic

Rangers made safe passage through to the Eastbourne Junior Cup semi final with a hard fought win over neighbours Eastbourne Athletic.

After a goalless first half, the match defining moment came in the 52nd minute when a Connor Sullivan 25 yard thunderbolt found the athletic top corner.

Three minutes late rangers were down to 10 men when a clumsy (not malicious) challenge by vice skipper Dan Harmer saw him seemingly break the leg of former ranger Chris Langford

The game was delayed for half an hour while paramedics attended to "Langers" but from the restart rangers managed to hold out for the win.

We all wish Langers the speediest of recoveries, and in classic rangers fashion, he was still cracking jokes through his ordeal.

Get well soon buddy. X x

With Happyjacks Soft Play we can bring the fun to you where you can keep an eye on your children and feel much more relaxed at the same time, whatever the occasion!

Happyjacks Soft Play equipment is available to hire for birthdays, weddings, christenings, barbecues, garden parties, events and any other functions where children will be. Eastbourne Rangers FC 0-1 Little Chelsea (AET)

Rangers bowed out of the league cup by the slimmest of margins despite creating enough chances in the first 20 minutes to take control of the game. Rangers seek league revenge on Wittersham

Rangers make the long trip to Wittersham this week where they hope to build on last week’s immense cup victory against Crowborough Athletic III. The two teams have already met this season when a below par rangers home performance gifted Wittersham a 2-0 victory. Since that game, Wittersham have picked up just two league home victories against Herstmonceux (5-1) and Wadhurst United (3-1). A home 2-2 draw against an ever improving Catsfield side brings their recent points haul to just seven points as away defeats at Little Chelsea (7-3) and last weeks defeat at Windsor (3-1) shows they are by know means infallible. There full league record is P8 W3 D3 L2 F23 A22 Pts12 which indicates they are strong in front of goal, averaging 3 goals a game, but are equally susceptible at the back. Their league cup form mirrors that of rangers which has seen them defeat two division one sides in the early rounds. These wins were again both home victories against Orington (7-2) and Mountfield (4-0) which shows this weeks opponents are very strong in their own back yard. Wittersham have also progressed into the next round of the Hastings Junior Cup where they claimed a 3-2 away win at Bexhill AAC – another division one scalp!

The Wittersham dangerman in the league is Liam Sayer who has 5 goals to his name who incidentally was last year’s top scorer throughout the entire league with 35 goals. Rangers will have to be wary of this, and of his strike partner, who contributes to many Sayer’s and Wittersham’s chances. Rangers welcome back several members of the squad this week who will be looking to stake a claim for a starting spot after missing last weeks superb cup victory.

It’s time to start picking up more league points, and if rangers apply themselves in the same way as last week, there’s no reason why 3 points are beyond the team. A win and one other result going their way could propel the triple champions as high as fourth place this week, and this simply has to be the target.

Many congratulations go to club vice-captain Dan Harmer who made his 100th appearance for Rangers in Saturday's cup victory over division 1 Crowborough. This is a quite remarkable achievement as the club have only participated in a total of 108 competitive games since it's formation four and a half years ago. That kind of loyalty and commitment to a club is rare, and is greatly appreciated by the management team and all the players.

Dan was one of the founding members of the club, and was one of the first signings made by manager Nick Stevenson. What a signing it has proved to be as well, because as his appearance record shows Dan is a key member of the Rangers squad. He has been one of the most consistent players in the squad season after season, and can always be guaranteed to give 100% every game. In fact he seems to have got better every season as Rangers have moved up divisions. With him improving like a fine wine, who's to say that 150 or even 200 appearances isn't possible.

Without doubt a true Rangers legend!

Can Rangers Cause Cup Upset Against The Crows.....?

Rangers welcome division one side Crowborough Athletic III to the sports park this week in the second round of the Wisden Sports Challenge Cup. Rangers are undoubtedly underdogs for this game with this weeks opponents flying high in the division above rangers where they sit in second place.

Their first game of the season was a home tie against Icklesham Casuals where the 2012/13 division two champions battled out a 1-0 victory. Their first trip on the road saw them snatch a dramatic late 3-2 victory at Langney Wanderers while seven days later, they shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at Mountfield. Bexhill AAC then inflicted their only defeat on them with a crushing 6-1 scoreline. Sedlescombe were then on the receiving end of a 5-1 thumping from Crowborough, surely a result of the previous weeks performance! The Crows then competed in their FIFTH successive away game when they beat top of the table Battle Baptists 2-1. They followed this up with a 6-0 mauling of Bosham II in the Sussex Junior Cup while their next game was three weeks later (last week) when they thrashed Icklesham Casuals 9-1 away from home.

So their league stats looks like this- P7 W5 D1 L1 F20 A11 Pts16. Twelve of those league goals have been shared between Daryl King (7) and Michael Fuller (5) while Rangers top scorers this year are Glen Noble, Dan Harmer and Ben Jesson - all on four goals each.

A cup trophy is the only likely source of silverware this season for the triple champions given rangers poor start to the league this year. The red and blacks will also be keen to put last weeks very poor performance behind them and hopefully cause a massive cup upset in the process.

1.30pm kick off at the sports park, see you all there.

Rangers were brought crashing down to earth after a poor display against a very good side.

Rangers found themselves 3 down in the opening exchanges but Robert Anderson scored just before half time to give the red and blacks some hope.

Rangers face "strong" Tackleway

After last weeks cup heroics, Eastbourne Rangers return to league action this weekend where they will be hoping to get a result against a very strong JC Tackleway side. Tackleway currently sit in second spot of division 2 and have a league record as follows: P7 W4 D2 L1 F17 A10 Pts14

Their league campaign started off with a comfortable 3-0 home win against Ninfield II while a week later, they were involved in an entertaining 4-4 draw on home turf against Wittersham. Week 3 saw Tackleway hit the road for the first time where they collected all 3 points at Catsfield with a solid 3-1 victory. A break in league action saw Eastbourne Albert take JC Tackleway to extra time in the league cup with this weeks opponents eventually too strong for the Albert, securing a 2-1 win and safe passage through to the next round. They then suffered their first defeat in the league when Wadhurst United proved too strong at Washwell Lane, 2-0 to the home side the final scoreline.

They didn’t fair so well in the Hastings FA Junior Cup a week later either where they suffered their second defeat of the season with Bexhill AAC 3-1 victors. A brief return to league action saw Tackleway play out a 0-0 stalemate against a depleted Windsor side at the sports park while 7 days later, Bexhill AAC did it again coming away with a 6-0 victory over Tackleway in the league cup. Normal service was quickly resumed with back to back away wins at Hawkhurst United (4-2) and Crowhurst (3-0). The Crowhurst game was Tackleway’s last competitive game on the first Saturday of November.

This week’s opposition seem to share the goals around with Georges Williams (4), Antons Poplavskis (3) and Josh Eaton (3) all on the divisions top scorers list. Rangers have 3 players on 4 league goals each with Ben Jesson, Glen Noble and Dan Harmer looking to add to their totals while new signing Sean Hardie will be hoping to make his long awaited debut for the club by signing on with a goal or two himself.

Despite Tackelway’s four game baron run of one draw from four games, they now looked to have turned the corner meaning rangers should expect a very tough game, especially at Barley Lane where the very narrow pitch is difficult to play on. Rangers last made this trip on the opening day of the season two years ago when they played the Tackleway second string. Second half goals from Sam Weller, Stuart Potter and Andy Wells secured a 3-0 victory on the day, sadly all three players are no longer with the club.

The red and blacks should feel encouraged by their recent form which has seen them lose just one of their last six games with back to back clean sheets also very pleasing from the last 2 matches. If everyone turns up on song, and willing to work for each other, there is no reason to think about anything less than THREE MASSIVE points.

Rangers Face Wanderers in Cup Derby Spectacle

Eastbourne Rangers face division one side Langney Wanderers Reserves this week in the Eastbourne Junior Cup at the sports park. The two sides met in preseason at Shinewater Lane where they played out an entertaining 1-1 draw with Ben Jesson netting for rangers on the day.

Wanderers opened their league campaign with a series of narrow one goal defeats which began with a 4-3 defeat at division one champions Hollington United II. Crowborough Athletic III were the first side to face wanderers at “The Lane” this year with the away side coming away with a 3-2 victory while a week later, Wanderers were back on the road at Sedlescombe Rangers with the home side recording a slim 3-2 victory. Mountfield United were the victors 7 days later by the same 3-2 scoreline but the following week Wanderers got off the mark with a stunning 4-1 victory against Orington, with first teamer Rikki Prodger netting a hatrick.

Bexhill AAC were the next side to visit Shinewater Lane, and they came away with a comfortable 4-1 win which was closely followed by wanderers losing 4-2 away to Icklesham. In their last two games, Wanderers have put together back to back wins for the first time; the first a 3-1 victory over bottom club Sandhurst; the second a 5-3 Sussex FA Junior Cup win over division fours Bexhill-on- Sea. Wanderers league record reads P7 W2 D0 L5 F17 A20 Pts6. The league table is currently showing wanders have played 8 games notching up 3 wins but this includes a home win awarded to them last weekend when Eastbourne Albert could not fulfil the fixture. Ultimately, all of Eastbourne Alberts games will be expunged from the league table.

Wanderers are bound to be on a high as their new side is clearly beginning to gel. Both teams go into the game full of confidence with rangers losing just one of their last 5 games; that being a 5-2 defeat at the hands of runaway division 2 leaders Little Chelsea. Rangers have mustered 10 points from their last five games which is much more like the form they are hoping to maintain for the rest of the season. Rangers will have to keep a close eye on wanderers top scorer Tate Fly who as amalgamated 5 league goals from central midfield during this current campaign while wanderers will be looking to stem the flow of goals that marksmen Ben Jesson, Glen Noble and new signing Sean Hardie are hoping to acquire.

The forecast is good for this weekend so it should be GAME ON!

Ninfield United II 0-7 Eastbourne Rangers

Rangers took the lead on 23 minutes when Josh Kyte unleashed a drive from 20 yards which saw the keeper well beaten. Two minutes before half time a Julian Waters freekick was headed home by the returning Mike Pickard which saw the red amd blacks go in 2 up at the break. Waters then got on the scoresheet along with Benjamin Jesson and with half an hour still remaining the management team rung the changes. Influential vice skipper Dan Harmer entered the fray to score two quick goals before Connor Sullivan was chopped down in the area. On a hatrick, Harmer cooly stepped up to secure his first ever rangers hatrick. What an impact!!

MOM was awarded to Robert Anderson.

After starting the season with 4 straight defeats Rangers form in the last five games certainly makes better reading.

Red and Blacks look to impose more misery on Ninfield…

Eastbourne Rangers travel to bottom side Ninfield United II this weekend where they will be hoping to build on last week’s excellent performance against Wadhurst United. Ninfield started their campaign this season with FOUR consecutive away games, which for any team, is a tall order. Back to back defeats at the hands of The JC Tackleway (3-0) and Crowhurst (6-1) were quickly followed by defeats at Wadhurst United (4-2) and a marginal loss against Windsor (2-1) where Ninfield conceded a 90th minute goal which robbed them of a share of the spoils. Ninfield finally played their first home match of the season in gameweek 5 where relief would have been very apparent when they notched up their first three points of the season in a 2-0 victory over Catsfield. However, more issues on the road were clearly on display when Herstmonceux inflicted a 9-1 defeat at Lime Cross on this weeks opponents. A break in league action saw Ninfield pick up their first away win of the season in a 3-2 win at division three’s Punnetts Town in the Hastings FA Junior Cup, while 7 days later they crashed out of the league cup when Sedlescombe Rangers came away 6-1 winners from Ninfield Rec.

Ninfield seem to struggle hitting the back of the onion bag having scored just 7 in 6 games so the hope is that maybe rangers can secure their first clean sheet of the season; however only The JC Tackleway have kept a clean sheet against Ninfield so far this campaign. Ninfield’s full league record reads P6 W1 D0 L5 F7 A24 Pts3.

On paper, surely the bookies would back rangers on this one. But one thing’s for sure, going into the game with a complacent attitude could be the undoing of this ever improving rangers outfit. That being said, rangers have clearly turned the corner over the last few weeks which was typified upon hearing the final whistle on Saturday when the entire team left the field of play clearly disappointed with a point.

Only three points will do this week. A rangers win and all other results going the way of the red and blacks could see them jump to as high as FIFTH in the league table.

This simply HAS to be the target.

Eastbourne Rangers FC 2-2 Wadhurst United

A spirited rangers display saw them come from 2 goals down to secure a more than well deserved draw (Full Match Report to follow). A well taken Wadhurst goal was quickly followed by a goal of controversy when keeper Martin Bell was clearly fouled in the lead up to the visitors second.

This spurred the home side on who responded superbly. Ricky Curran sent in a pin point cross where Christian Ward sent a BULLETT header into the top corner which saw the game tentatively poised 2-1 at half time.

Midway through the second half, Dan Chapman unlocked the door when he found Benjamin Jesson's run who rounded the keeper and slotted home to secure his first goal from open play this season.

Rangers then dominated proceedings and nearly snatched a deserved victory when Glen Noble rattled the Wadhurst bar from 6 yards out from Jessons cross.

MOM- Lee Chapman

Special mention to Mike Pickard who was an unused substitute.

Top work from all the guys. When you come away disapointed with a draw, it shows how well the team has come on over the last few weeks.

Rangers face in form Wadhurst

Rangers face an in form Wadhurst United side this weekend (weather permitting) in the first ever meeting between the two clubs. Wadhurst currently sit one place above rangers on goal difference but have played a staggering four games less. They started off their league campaign at the sports park when they were defeated by Little Chelsea, 5-2. They have since won their last FIVE games, two of which came in the league – a 4-2 win against bottom club Ninfield United II and a solid 2-0 home victory against The JC Tackleway. Their league stats are as follows; P3 W2 D0 L1 F8 A7 Pts6 with 3 of their goals attributed to John Penny who has almost certainly netted more goals in their three cup ties this season. Wadhurst brushed aside division 1 side Icklesham Casuals 8-3 in the first round of the league cup while last week in round two, they edged past division 1 table toppers Battle Baptists I by a 2-1 margin. Two weeks ago they squeezed past division threes Bexhill United III (in the Hastings FA Junior Cup) in a Friday night fixture at The Polegrove. But don’t be fooled by the score as Bexhill would have almost certainly strengthened by using players from their reserve team. So in all six games this season, this weeks opponents have scored 20, conceding 12 with only 6 of these goals (5 against Little Chelsea) being conceded in the league.

Wadhurst seem to be quite formidable at the moment and should not be underestimated. Rangers will be hoping that strikers Ben Jesson, Glen Noble and Jamie Strong can add to their tallies while at the other end, the red and blacks will be looking to tighten it up at the back. After an encouraging performance in some ways against Little Chelsea and back to back wins before that, rangers should be going into the game full of confidence. With last weeks disappointing washout still clear in the minds of everyone, all the players should be raring to go.

With any luck the game will get the go ahead this week.

3pm Kick off at Old Town Rec

Eastbourne Rangers FC 2-5 Little Chelsea

Little Chelsea went two goals up in the opening 25 minutes only for Benjamin Jesson to give the red and blacks hope on the stroke of half time when he won and converted a penalty. In the second period Little Chelsea quickly restored their two goal cushion to make the score 3-1 which was short lived when Glen Noble latched on to a neat Jesson pass to make it 3-2. Little Chelsea were then awarded a dubious, potentially match-defining penalty which was tucked away at the point of the game when rangers had the table toppers wobbling. But then they added their fifth goal of the contest with 15 minutes to go to kill off rangers hope of a comeback.

The scoreline suggests rangers were well beaten but if anything the scoreline flatters Little Chelsea a tad. Positives from the game were rangers looked extremely good going forward with a Little Chelsea representative commenting that rangers are "the best side we've played this year".

A top team effort from all the lads, big cup game next week!

Eastbourne Rangers look to cause a massive upset when they face league leaders and title favourites Little Chelsea at the sports park this weekend. Rangers have improved over the past two games which has seen the red and blacks secure back to back wins which also brought to an end the worst ever losing streak in rangers history.

Little Chelsea began their league campaign with two consecutive home games which saw them easily overcome Wadhurst United and Catsfield, 5-2 and 6-1 respectively. They then faced Crowhurst on the road where they notched up a 4-1 win at Crowhurst Rec while a break in league action saw them pummel Herstmonceux 10-4 in the league cup. Seven days later, Little Chelsea returned to league action where they faced a much changed Herstmonceux side at Lime Cross which saw them edge a 2-1 victory in what has been their tightest game this season to date. Last weekend saw a return to the sports park where Little Chelsea thumped Ninfield United 7-3. This week’s opposition possess the division’s top scorer in the shape of striker Joe Morris who has scored an impressive 10 goals already this season. Their league record is equally impressive – P5 W5 D0 L0 F24 A8 Pts15. Like rangers they are yet to keep a clean sheet this season but that may well be of little concern to them given their results and goal scoring escapades so far. Rangers are full of confidence and hope to compete in a game against what should be the toughest opposition in the league this campaign.

Can rangers cause an early season upset? Come down to the SportsPark for a 3pm kick off and find out.

Rangers finally got off the mark with a well deserved win. Rangers hit the bar twice during the first half but found themselves 1 down on the stroke of half time. A second half hatrick from Jamie Strong was the difference between the two sides, his second a sublime 25 yard freekick. Eastbourne Rangers welcome Crowhurst to the sports park this week in an ESFL division 2 encounter that is yet again crucial to the red and blacks as four straight defeats see the triple champions languishing at the foot of the table.

Crowhurst have played 3 league games so far which has seen then draw 3-3 with Wittersham; hammer Ninfield 6-1 and lose 4-1 to leaders Little Chelsea. Last week saw them lose 3-2 to Hawkhurst United in the league cup. Crowhurst unfortunately folded midway through last season but they have since reformed and have made a solid start notching up 4 league points already.

Rangers will be looking to put an atrocious start behind them with the management team calling for solidarity and calm which will hopefully guide the team to their first 3 points of the season.

Rangers face tough Wittersham test

Rangers welcome Wittersham to the sports park this week in a division 2 encounter of high importance. Rangers have suffered three defeats on the bounce but feel they have been coming closer to securing the points as each game has passed. Wittersham were promoted from division 2 last season after finishing in the runners-up spot with their record reading P20 W14 D1 L5. They also boasted the top scorer from all divisions with their lead striker scoring 35 league goals. It was in fact this striker that put rangers out of the league cup last year when the two sides met at Wittersham Rec. With the scores tied 1-1 after 90 minutes and then 2-2 after 120 minutes, the Wittersham hotshot scored the winning penalty in the preceding penalty shoot out to send rangers crashing out at the quarter final stage.

Wittersham’s results so far this season has seen them play out a 3-3 draw at home to Crowhurst while 2 weeks ago they travelled to The JC Tackleway where they secured a 4-4 draw. Last week saw their game abandoned as the Windsor keeper Luke Costello suffered a horrific arm dislocation (we wich you a speedy recovery “Tello”).

As it stands, Wittersham are definitely the entertainers of division 2 both leaking and scoring plenty of goals.

It’s only a matter of time before rangers season gets up and running, could this be the week where rangers get what they deserve…..?

Let’s hops so.

Rangers hope to get off the mark at Hawkhurst

Eastbourne Rangers face a long trip to Hawkhurst Untied this week where they will hope to bag all three points for the first time this season. Back to back defeats against Windsor and Herstmonceux have ensured that rangers find themselves in unfamiliar territory at the foot of the table, but at least they can still hold their heads high......

Hawkhurst were relegated from division one last season which saw them play 16 games with only 2 wins and 3 draws bearing any fruit for their troubles. This season has seen them play the same opponents as rangers where they started off with a 3-0 home victory against a very different looking Herstmonceux side while last weekend they crashed to a 4-0 away defeat at a depleted Windsor outfit.

The message from the management team is not to panic and keep playing football, as that elusive first win is not far away.

Come on lads, we can do this!

Rangers seek cup final revenge....

Rangers look to bounce back in style this week against Herstmonceux after last weeks opening day defeat to Windsor FC. Herstmonceux also came away empty handed on matchday one losing 3-0 away to rangers next opponents, Hawkhurst United. Rangers met 'ceux in last seasons Eastbourne Vice Presidents Cup Final and were shaded out on the night, losing 2-1 with Mike Pickard the rangers scorer whereas both 'ceux scorers on the night have since left the club.

Herstmonceux struggled in the league last season after having no fewer than three different managers, instability that would test any club. Their record was P20 W6 D2 L12 and avoided the drop with some decent end of season results to keep them in division 2. After having played against Herstmonceux Reserves over the last three years, rangers will be looking forward to meeting Herstmonceux first team for the first time in league competition.

This will be a tough test for the red and blacks and with other circumstances quite possibly in the triple champions favour this week, the quest for the first three league points of the season is a distinct possibility. However, Herstmonceux will not make it easy.

See you all at The Sports Park for a 3pm kick off.

Opening day is DERBY day…!

Rangers face neighbours Windsor FC this week in their opening game of the 2013/14 league campaign. Windsor finished last season as Eastbourne FA Junior Cup winners after defeating rangers quarter final opponents, Little Chelsea, 2-1 in the final which saw Jack “Pez” Perry receive his marching orders thus ensuring he is suspended for this game. Windsor also suffered a cruel blow a few weeks ago when midfielder Craig Luttridge broke his arm against Sedlescombe.

Windsor finished 7th in division 2 last season with a record that saw them win 9, draw 1 and lose 10 in what was a very tough league. With new manager Trevor Blanks at the helm and several new signings, Windsor will no doubt be looking to improve on their league record from last year, and like rangers, will be hoping to be in the mix at the end of the season.

Rangers won division 4 last year to make it a hatrick of league titles and put together a good case to be promoted two divisions which the East Sussex Football League duly approved.

So two teams with something to prove – should be a cracker!

See you at the sports park 3pm kick off.

Rangers played out a tough 2-2 draw at neighbours Willingdon Athletic Reserves last night in a game which saw two sides keen to play football the way it should be played. Rangers took the lead inside 2 minutes when a Ricky Curran freekick found Mike Pickard at the back post who applied the finishing touch expertly with his head. Athletic equalised 10 minutes before the break when rangers rightly tried to play out from keeper Martin Bell but a cruel bounce left the red and blacks number one in a right tangle which allowed the Willingdon striker an easy tap in. Midway through the second half, Ben Jesson earned and converted a penalty to give rangers the lead only for Willingdon to convert a penalty of their own with 10 minutes to go to see the final score finish at 2-2.

An eventful preseason season has seen rangers notch up 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss in the 6 games that have been played. Rangers have scored a whopping 28 goals, conceding 7 with keeper Martin Bell claiming 2 clean sheets.

Rangers face Windsor FC in a massive opening day local league derby on the 31st August, and no doubt the Windsor squad may well have picked up a few hints on rangers style of playing seeing as half a dozen or so of them watched the game at Willingdon. This could be a tantalising affair at the sports park, 3pm kick off.

See you all there.

Let’s get off to a good start..

Grant's Gloves Are Hung......Up.

It is with great sadness that safe hands himself, Grant Smith, has decided to call it a day and hang up his gloves. Granto has been a great servant to the club over the past three seasons and has been one of the main reasons rangers have conceded so few goals over the last three league winning campaigns.

Grant's first competitive game was back in September 2010 when he helped seal his first ever rangers performance with a 4-1 win against Sandhurst II on the opening day of the season. Grant has since racked up 66 appearances keeping an amazing 26 clean sheets for the club as well as securing 6 MOM awards. He signed off with a dazzling display in May where he put in a man of the match performance against Herstmonceux I in the Eastbourne Vice Presidents Cup at The Oval, but not even his heroics were able to secure rangers a victory on the night.

We wish Grant well in the future, and it is hoped that he will still be involved with the club at some level should he take the management team up on their offer.

Come on Granto, you know it makes sense!

Rangers just fall short in cup final

Eastbourne Rangers competed in their first ever cup final against higher ranked opposition in the final of the Eastbourne Vice presidents cup where Herstmonceux came out marginal 2-1 winners. The opening goal of the game came 5 minutes before half time when rangers Rob Anderson deflected a shot into his own net to give the division 2 side a half time lead. Rangers hit back on 72 minutes when a Ricky Curran freekick was headed powerfully into the Herstmonceux net by Mike Pickard to make it 1-1. Eight minutes later, a moment of controversy occurred when leading scorer Ben Jesson stuck the ball in the back of the Herstmonceux net but was wrongly ruled out for offside. Almost instantaneously, Herstmonceux broke and a cross from the rangers left was smartly finished by a Herstmonceux striker, a goal worthy to win any game. Rangers tried to hit back but the triple league champions ran out of time.

MOM – Grant Smith, superb saves and solid throughout

Rangers should be proud of their achievements this season and should bear in mind that reaching a cup final was a mere bonus in relation to the clubs primary objective at the start of this campaign. A third consecutive league title is something to be very proud of and cannot be matched by many, if any, in recent years in the East Sussex Football League.

Congratulations to the whole squad for all their effort and hard work this season. Now is the time for rest and relaxation before the hard work of preseason begins at the end of June.

Mayfield prove tough nut to crack

Eastbourne Rangers notched up their eighteenth league win of the season on Saturday coming through eventual 2-1 winners against a very stubborn Mayfield side. A brace from Luke Davies ( rangers 99th and 100th league goals of the season) sandwiched a lone Mayfield reply, which had given the visitors late hope with 10 minutes to go. Rangers winner came just 2 minutes from time meaning the red and blacks finished their season 4 points ahead of nearest rivals Herstmonceux.

The only other game in the division saw Eastbourne Athletic coast to a 4-2 victory over Iden II which further cemented an excellent third placed finished for the hornets!

Rangers hope to finish with a double flourish

After last weekends lacklustre performance against relegation threatened West Hill United, Eastbourne Rangers welcome another club scrapping for survival to the sports park Saturday, Mayfield.

Rangers made the trip to Mayfield back in October when an under strength red and black side came away with all three points with a 3-1 victory. Since that day, things haven’t got too much better for Mayfield as they have only picked up 10 points from their last 17 league games, winning four and drawing once. They currently sit second from bottom in the division with a record of P21, W6, D1, L14, F29, A61, GD32, Pts19. During this time they have also been knocked out of the Sussex FA Junior Cup by Hollington II, 5-1. Mayfield come into this game knowing that only a win or a draw along with other results going their way would see them survive the drop.

The management team expect a much better performance this week bearing in mind EVERYBODY is playing for a cup final place.

This brings us on to the cup final which is on Tuesday night at The Oval (Eastbourne United FC) where we face rivals Herstmonceux I. Rangers obviously know their reserve team very well as they have competed in the same division(s) for three seasons. Rangers finally get the chance to test themselves against the Herstmonceux front side and it is hoped that we can push the division 2 outfit close.

We should not read too much into their league position or season long form bearing in mind the nature of Herstmonceux’s topsy turvey season with regards to players and managers alike. However, in recent months they have picked themselves up and worked their way out of the relegation zone to safety. Since the turn of the year, ‘ceux have played a dozen league games recording 6 wins, 1 draw and 5 defeats which is a great return from a side that were looking doomed at Christmas. A “new” manager (third of the season) and some very good signings have played a major part in this turnaround.

Ceux will no doubt be favourites for the game in everybody’s eyes with rangers hoping to run them close and maybe cause an upset. The ‘ceux players will no doubt be fully rested for the final as their league season has finished. With this in mind, the rangers management team will again elect to rotate over the forthcoming games and look after players as best they can.

Can rangers finish off with two wins?

Let’s hope so. #superrangers

Woeful Rangers in ferocious fight back

With the league title already wrapped up, Eastbourne Rangers welcomed relegation candidates West Hill United to the sports park and found themselves behind 2-1 at the interval with Josh Kyte thundering a first half reply for rangers. Rangers woeful performance continued after the break conceding a further 2 goals inside the opening 20 minutes of the half with some uncharacteristic sloppy defending. With 10 minutes to go, a tactical switch saw the rangers fight back commence, first with a Ben Jesson penalty after Stuart Potter was nudged over in the area, and then a Dan Harmer tap in after a Conor Middleton long throw caused all sorts of problems in the United area. This set up a grandstand finale which was assisted by the addition of 6 minutes injury time. West Hill had chances to put the game beyond rangers but a combination of poor finishing and improved rangers defending meant that Christian Ward left his mark on the match scoring a late equaliser for rangers with literally the last kick of the game which saw the score finish 4-4.

Other results in the division saw neighbours Eastbourne Athletic secure a deserved third place in the league ahead of Guestling in fourth, by beating Peche Hill Select II 4-0; while Bexhill United III comfortably overcame the challenge of Burwash and secure fifth place in the division after bagging a 5-1 home win. Rangers final league opponents Mayfield failed to get on the score sheet against Peasmarsh United who scored 4 times to notch up a sixth placed finish in the division.

Rangers would like to take this opportunity to thank Eastbourne Athletic manager Lee Boniface, who before the game entered the rangers changing rooms and shook the hand of every squad member, congratulating them on wining the league title. A much appreciated gesture by a true sportsman. Congratulations to you Lee and your troops on a third place finish, and all the best to you and your team next season.

Peasmarsh and West Hill match reports now up.

Congratulations go to the youngest member of the Rangers squad who made his 50th appearance for the red and blacks during the West Hill game. Well Done Stuart Potter.

Will West Hill Cause Rangers Wobble?

Having already secured the league title, Eastbourne Rangers welcome relegation candidates West Hill United to the sports park in what is surely a much win game for them. The two sides have met twice this season with rangers coming out on top both times. The first game saw rangers win 4-1 in the ADA challenge cup back in November. In the last meeting, rangers completely dominated proceedings at Bexhill Road when the red and blacks smashed in TWELVE goals without reply.

Since the last meeting, United have picked up 10 points in 10 games to give them hope of football in division 4 next year, but only a win against rangers with other results going their way can guarantee this providing the bottom two of the division are to be relegated. Wins against Mayfield, Burwash and Iden II have given them some hope, but having conceded 55 goals in the last 10 league games will no doubt be of grave concern to all at West Hill with their most recent game ending in a 10-3 defeat to Eastbourne Athletic.

Rangers go into the game buoyed by the result in midweek, a 2-1 win at Bexhill United III – a win that secured their third consecutive league title. Rangers will not be looking to drop any points for the remainder of the season as they home in on increasing a club record end of season points tally.

Rangers are just CHAMPION

Eastbourne Rangers went down in East Sussex Football League HISTORY last night (Wednesday) at The Polegrove as they overcame a strengthened Bexhill United III side to win 2-1 despite going a goal behind midway through the first half (Full Match Report). The opening goal came as rangers were left wanting down their left hand side with Bexhill’s pacey winger squeezing the ball between keeper Grant Smith and his near post. On the stroke of half time, club vice captain Dan Harmer ensured the red and blacks went in on level terms after poking home from close range after a Jules Waters corner had caused mayhem in the Bexhill box. This was rangers just reward as they had dominated the final 10 minutes of the half despite being shaded out during the opening 35 minutes.

During the second half, rangers showed their quality and began to dictate play although Bexhill, who kept the ball very well at times, looked very dangerous on the break. Keeper Smith made a world class save early on in the half to keep rangers in the game but the season defining goal came with 18 minutes left on the clock as powerhouse Mike Pickard leapt the highest to slam home a Ben Jesson corner. Rangers had a scare in the dying moments of the game when a Bexhill player blazed over after finding himself unmarked at the back post.

All in all, a top effort from rangers all season, and bearing in mind they’ve always been the team to catch since early on, the players and management team can be very pleased that they didn’t limp over the line to secure the title.

That’s three in a row for rangers with consistency and team togetherness very much the key.

Top work lads.

Relentless Rangers three points away from East Sussex Football League history

Eastbourne Rangers travel to The Polegrove on Wednesday night where Bexhill United III stand in the way of rangers and a third successive league title. This game is technically rangers home fixture but the rangers management team agreed to switch the game to The Polegrove for varying reasons.

The two sides met on the opening day of the season at Buxton Drive with the experience and quality of rangers shining through, rangers securing a 7-2 victory. Since then, Bexhill have almost certainly gained some valuable experience over the last 6 months picking up some impressive results along the way. They currently sit fifth in the division with this looking like a likely finishing position (they need just 1 win from last 2 games to secure this position) which would be a great return from a side who were predominantly an under 18 team last season.

Their league record is P20 W8 D4 L8 F50 A44 Pts28 with Bexhill actually securing more points on the road (16) compared to on home soil (12). Their leading scorer is Mark Adams on 15 league goals and Adams impressed in the season opener in September. West Hill United knocked Bexhill out of the league cup in September while Guestling came away 8-3 victors in the Hastings FA Lower Divisions Cup in mid October. A trip to Roffey FC saw Bexhill rack up a hatrick of cup exits, losing 3-0 on December 1st.

League history is in the hands of the back to back champions, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. The red and blacks should have the experience to get the job done but everyone at the club should be wary that it’s quite possible Bexhill could have a few tricks up their sleeves. Only a decent rangers performance will bring home the spoils under the lights, combined with the usual discipline and determination that has been rife in the squad for the last 3 seasons.

History in the making…..

Eastbourne Rangers came through a tough test on Saturday to beat Peasmarsh United 3-1 (Match report to follow). Rangers were uncharacteristically slow out of the blocks but looked to take first blood when they were awarded a penalty. Ben Jesson stepped up to see his effort saved by the keeper. Worse followed as rangers went one down but two goals just before half time from Luke Davies and Mike Pickard settled rangers down. Within 5 minutes of the restart, rangers added a third through a Stuart Potter goal. Rangers now need just one win from their last three games to seal their third consecutive league title and make league history. Other games in the division saw closet rivals Herstmonceux II win a double header away at Burwash to complete their league schedule. The first game saw them edge a close affair winning 1-0 while the second game was more comfortable with Herstmonceux registering 3 unanswered goals which sees them top the league by three points. With rangers far superior goal difference, a win on Wednesday night will be enough to secure the title for rangers. Guestling finished their season with a comfortable 5-2 over Bexhill United III while Eastbourne Athletic, the only team that can pinch third place form Guestling, won 3-0 at Magham Down. West Hill United still hope to avoid the drop and a 3-2 win against Iden will no doubt help their cause while Mayfield, another side with relegation fears of their own, unexpectedly THUMPED Peche Hill Select II 5-0.

Match Reports for the 2 wins at Iden are now available. Match 1 and Match 2.

Rangers look to pip Peasmarsh to the points…

Eastbourne Rangers now need just 6 more points from a possible 12 to secure a third consecutive league title. They can find themselves halfway to this target come 5pm Saturday afternoon if they can bag all three points at home to Peasmarsh United. The two sides met in just the third week of the season with rangers putting in one of their best performances this year to win 9-2 on the day. Goals from Rob Anderson, Josh Kyte, Ben Jesson, Stuart Potter, an own goal and FOUR from Glen Noble proved rangers were just too hot for United.

Peasmarsh come in to the game on a poor run of form after winning just two of their last 11 games which also includes two draws against Bexhill United III and West Hill United. The wins came against Magham Down (4-0) and at Iden II (2-1) while last weekend saw them lose in both games during a double header against Eastbourne Athletic, 2-0 and 3-2.

United currently sit seventh in division four with a record of P20 W8 D2 L10 F47 A50 Pts26. With an average of scoring nearly 2.5 goals a game, they clearly have no problem in that department but more worryingly for united is their form at the end where they have conceded 50 goals at a similar ratio. However, they are clearly no pushovers as they have secured vital wins (for rangers at least) by beating both Herstmonceux II and Guestling during the season.

There is now some light at the end of the 2012/13 tunnel with rangers looking to finish their primary objective for this season as clinically as possible. With goal scoring targets as a team and as individuals bound to be in the back of everybody’s minds, the ONLY focus should be registering three more league points this weekend.

With second placed Herstmonceux II away at Burwash with a double header, two wins will see them on the top of the pile come Saturday evening. In theory, this should leave rangers needing just one more win from their last three league games, should everything go to plan against Peasmarsh.

As has been the case all season, it’s in our own hands…

Dan Harmer April 14th, 2013 Latest News

Having lost top spot in the Division during midweek, as Herstmonceux beat Eastbourne Athletic, Rangers got back to the summit, all be it on goal difference, with two victories in the double header away at Iden. Two impressive Rangers performances, after the disappointment of the cup defeat 5 days previous, resulted in a 5-0 and an 8-2 win and six valuable points (match reports to follow).

Herstmonceux kept up the pressure on Rangers with a 6-3 home win against West Hill. Guestling, desperate to hold onto 3rd spot, claimed a vital 3 points with a 3-0 away win at Mayfield. Eastbourne Athletic faced another double header, this time against Peasmarsh, and again picked up 6 points with a 2-0 and a 3-2 win. The other match in the division saw Bexhill come out on top in the mid-table clash against Peche Hill Select with a 4-2 home win.

Rangers look for maximum points in Iden double

Eastbourne Rangers face the long trip to Iden II this weekend where they will play a double header of games meaning 6 points are up for grabs. Two separate games lasting one hour each (half hour each way) is the order of the day with a 15 minute break in between the two games. This situation has occurred due to the appalling weather devastating fixtures for weeks on end throughout the season. With Herstmonceux II securing 3 points against Eastbourne Athletic during midweek, rangers have now dropped to second in the table but have a massive three games in hand.

Iden currently sit eighth in division four and appear to be the draw masters of the division recording no fewer than SEVEN. They have lost the same amount of games n notching up just four wins which came against West Hill United, Bexhill United III, Magham Down and local rivals Peasmarsh United. It should however be noted that Iden appear to be very tough nuts to crack bearing in mind that they have secured a point apiece against Herstmonceux II, Eastbourne Athletic and Guestling – three teams that are currently battling it out for promotion!

They have netted 37 times this season and have conceded 47 earning 19 points in the process which should be just about enough to secure their division 4 status for another year. Iden were quite literally THUMPED by Peche Hill Select II who ran out 10-1 winners in the ADA Challenge Cup while the same opponents beat them 3-1 in the Hastings Lower Divisions cup a week later which ended their quest for silverware by the beginning of December.

The management team plan to travel with the largest squad possible this week in order to share around the workload throughout the day. Two tough, very tight games are expected so be prepared to work hard to secure 6 magical points which would see rangers soar back to the top of the division. The overall job is not yet done so lets complete the task that is in hand to bring home our third consecutive league title.

Don’t be Idle in Iden….

Rangers soared back to the top of Division four yesterday with a comprehensive 9-0 demolition of bottom club Magham Down (Match Report to follow). Plenty of goals and another clean sheet are the reason they sit on top of the league as their superior goal difference of +63 (easily the best throughout all of the 7 East Sussex leagues) separates them from Herstmonceux II.

Ceux leap-frogged Guestling into second place with an excellent 4-1 victory against their promotion rivals. Eastbourne Athletic also kept the pressure on at the top by securing back-to-back wins against Bexhill, winning 4-0 and 3-0 to pick up 6 points. A mid-table clash between Peche Hill and Peasmarsh at Tilekiln saw the home side come out on top with a 2-0 victory. Burwash picked up a valuable 3 points in their quest for survival with a 2-0 win away at Iden II. West Hill also enhanced their chances of playing in Division 4 again next season with a 4-1 away win at Mayfield in a real relegation 6 pointer.

After a double dose of extra time last weekend rangers welcome the chance to bag three league points this weekend as they welcome Magham Down to the sports park. No chance of extra time Saturday but Monday sees the red and blacks complete their fourth game in 10 days when they face Little Chelsea at The Oval (7.30pm kick off) in the quarter final of the Eastbourne Junior Cup. This is another BUMPER weekend of football for rangers who will be not only be looking to secure safe passage to the semi final but will also hope to regain top spot in the league with a victory against Magham, which is also dependant on Guestling (who have played four more league games than rangers) dropping points at Herstmonceux II.

Since rangers comfortable 5-0 victory at Magham in November, this weeks league opponents have clearly strengthened their squad with some much improved results over the last few months. Since defeat to rangers, Magham have secured 13 of their 14 league points in the last 13 games after an atrocious start to the season picking up just 1 point from their first 7. This improvement in results seems to correlate to the signing of their top scorer Aaron Weir who has netted 13 times (including 3 hatricks) since pulling on the Magham shirt for the first time. Wins over Iden II, Mayfield, West Hill United and Burwash suggest things are on the up but defeats against teams in the top half of the division (Herstmonceux II, Guestling and Peasmarsh United amongst others) suggest that Magham still need to improve considerably to avoid the drop. They currently sit second bottom in the division with an overall record of P20 W4 D2 L14 F33 A64 Pts 14. This is a must win game for the team from The Red Lion Field as only 2 more wins and other results going their way would ensure they can maintain their division 4 status. Rangers beware; this will not be an easy game against a team fighting for survival……

Little Chelsea are new to the East Sussex League and were thrust straight into division 2 based on the fact they had signed numerous ex county league players from yester year. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen as after a strong start to the season, long term injuries to key players and the frequent unavailability of others has seen Little Chelsea fall to fourth bottom of division 2 picking up just 4 points from their last 8 league games. During this period, Little Chelsea scraped past Hampden Park of division 6 with a 1-0 win in the Eastbourne FA Junior Cup first round but were also knocked out of the Eastbourne Vice Presidents Cup by Herstmonceux (score 2-1) in a hostile affair at the sports park in December. Their league record is P17 W6 D2 L9 F44 A51 Pts17 and they were also deducted 3 points for a win they secured earlier in the season as they fielded an unregistered player. Little Chelsea appear to be the Jekyll and Hyde of division 2 as their results do seem to vary based on the players they have available from week to week. With another cup semi final at stake, rangers we need to be at their absolute best on Monday as it is thought that Little Chelsea will field one of their strongest sides this season.

Come on rangers, we can do this……!

Eastbourne Rangers bowed out of the league cup on Saturday at the quarter final stage losing to division 3 outfit Wittersham, 5-4 on penalties. Ben Jesson gave rangers the lead in the second half of normal time with Glen noble proving the killer pass only for the hosts to equalise in the later stages of the half. After being wasteful in front of goal all game, rangers then feared the worst when Wittersham took the lead in the first half of extra time but the red and blacks had Josh Kyte to thank for bringing the scores level after some good interplay with Jesson. With Jesson, Luke Davies, Mike Pickard and Conor Middleton all scoring from the spot with Wittersham also scoring their first four, Jules Waters was the unfortunate player to miss for rangers while the Wittersham top scorer tucked away the home sides fifth penalty to seal the win. Disappointing based on chances made, territory and possession but it’s hitting the back of the onion bag that wins matches!

After Saturdays bitter disappointed, rangers returned to the field of dreams (Sports Park) on Easter Monday where they came up against a determined Grasshoppers Old Boys side in the semi final of the Eastbourne Vice Presidents Cup where squad rotation was very much the theme. Rangers got off to a flying start with ex Grasshopper Conor Middleton stabbing home from close range after 3 minutes only for Old Boys to equalise with a speculative effort which went through the hands of keeper Grant Smith – wind assisted. Rangers were yet again wasteful in front of goal with Middleton crashing a long range effort against the bar, Stuart Potter heading point blank at the Grasshoppers keeper (who was their MOM) and several other chances going begging during normal time. Extra time saw some further tactical tweaks which were rewarded when Josh Kyte crashed an effort into the Grasshoppers top corner while fellow wingman Chris Ward put the game beyond any doubt after coolly slotting home from 12 yards after Potter had nodded down to him. Tired legs from Saturday was no doubt a contributing factor to this rangers performance, however we shouldn’t take anything away from Grasshoppers who worked tirelessly throughout.

This win sees rangers face Herstmonceux I in the final at a date to be decided by the Eastbourne FA but it is though that this will be at The Oval in the very near future.

Match Reports for both games are now available via the fixtures page which is now upto date with all future matches.

Eastbourne Rangers are gearing themselves up for a BUMPER Easter weekend of football this week as their quest for cup silverware might finally continue should the weather hold out. Rangers face a long trip to Wittersham I (on Saturday) in the quarter final of the ADA Challenge Cup where they will face the winners of Guestling or Eastbourne Athletic. Monday sees the red and blacks take on the ever improving Grasshoppers Old Boys in the semi final of the Eastbourne Vice Presidents Cup where Herstmonceux I await the winners.

After last week’s BITTER disappointment of a DOUBLE postponement, surely the weather gods will not disappoint rangers for a FOURTH consecutive game by hammering down 24 hours before kick off? The forecast is not as bad as last Friday evening, but the fact that the Wittersham pitch was played on by their second team for the first time in 3 weeks last weekend means that it could well be a bit worse for wear.

Wittersham started of the season strongly with back to back wins in their opening two fixtures – a 6-1 away win at Travaux followed by a 2-1 home win against Rock A Nore II. Their first defeat of the season occurred when they succumbed to a 4-1 loss at Ninfield United II but they bounced back a week later spanking St Helens 9 (nine) – 3. A narrow win against AFC Hastings (1-0) then followed with another resounding win a week later on their home turf when Pebsham Sibex were on the wrong end of a 7-1 drubbing. An away trip to Eastbourne Fisherman ensured Wittersham lost their second game of the season 3-2 but a win in their next game 2 weeks later buoyed “witters” again when they conquered Punnetts Town 4-1 at Punnetts Town Rec. This was followed up by a high scoring 5-4 defeat at the hands of The JC Tackleway, again at Wittersham Rec.

A break in league action saw them play a trio of cup games; the first when they beat AFC Hastings for the second time this season; this time in the first round of the ADA Challenge Cup when they ran away 5-2 winners. Wittersham then had to switch their Hastings FA Junior Cup game from Wittersham Rec to Sandhurst Rec where Sandhurst took full advantage of home territory coming away with a 3-0 win. A week later, a Robertsbridge Junior Cup tie went all the way against Ninfield United II at Wittersham Rec where the two sides were deadlocked after 120 minutes, and only penalties could determine a winner – Ninfield winning 5-4 on spot kicks.

More recently Wittersham have had a trio of home games which has seen them beat St Leonards Social II 6-4 and AFC Hastings 2-1. A shock result at the beginning of March saw basement club Travaux secure an excellent 2-2 draw at the rec – their first point of the season! Two weeks ago, normal service was resumed as an 11-0 victory at second bottom St Leonards Social II was proof that they were back with a bang!

Wittersham clearly have no problem sticking the ball in the onion bag, 57 in 13 league games is a very healthy figure. However at the other end, they have shipped on average of two goals every league game conceding 26. There record is P13 W9 D1 L3 and they currently sit fourth in division 3 on 28 points. However rangers should not be discouraged, as even though Wittersham have disposed of the weaker teams in division 3 with considerable ease, they have also lost to the better quality sides including the top two in this division.

The rangers management team will also have half a eye on Easter Mondays semi final against Grasshoppers Old Boys. The two sides have already met in the Eastbourne Junior Cup this year where rangers quality was too much, too early for the improving young grasshopper side with rangers cruising to a 6-2 victory. Since that game, ex Grasshopper Conor Middleton has made the short trip across the sports park joining rangers just before Christmas after impressing the rangers management team during that game.

A week after rangers inflicted that defeat on them, Grasshoppers shut up shop after grinding out a 0-0 draw at home to second placed Sedlescombe Rangers II in division 5. Like most teams, Old Boys had to wait a full two months until their next game was given the nod which saw them play league leaders Bexhill AAC II in two consecutive weeks. Losing out 3-0 away, Grasshoppers gained revenge the following week at the sports park by inflicting a 2-0 defeat on Bexhill, their first loss of the season. Grasshoppers continued this good form into the next game where Westfield III were on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline while a week later, Grasshoppers suffered what some would say a shock defeat at Victoria Baptists, 3-1. A 3-3 home draw against Battle Baptist II steadied the ship again but the visit to Westfield III ended in a 5-4 defeat, mainly due to the home side strengthening with reserve team players on the day. Grasshoppers currently sit sixth in division 5 on 18 points with a record of P13 W5 D3 L5 F34 A27. They are clearly more than capable in front of goal but do seem to leak a few in most games too.

Two games in three days for rangers and both opponents this weekend is a big ask for everyone. However, rangers will be hopeful that their strength and depth will see them through these two very tricky games with the prize a cup final against Herstmonceux I at The Oval and a potential midweek cup semi final against Guestling or Eastbourne Athletic. The management team will be looking to rest and rotate players where possible, as Saturdays game at Wittersham sees rangers first of four games in just 10 days. Despite having 2 games scheduled for this weekend, it is important that every rangers player focuses on one game at a time – it’s very much the job of the management team to think ahead if needs be.

Yet another Rangers gameweek washed out due to the shocking weather of the last few months, yet another Saturday afternoon being dragged round Tescos by the missus and loitering longer than's probably needed in the cake aisle.

Two games did go ahead in division 4 however with Burwash securing an excellent away win at Peasmarsh and Guestling slipping up at home to Iden only managing a 2-2 draw. The point for Guestling however saw Rangers slip off of the top of the Division for the first time this season. They now sit one point adrift but with a massive FOUR games in hand.

Looking back across this season and the previous two it is worth noting that there have been a total of 94 active footballing weeks (2010/11 - 32 weeks, 2011/12 - 32 weeks, 2012/2013 - 30 weeks). Rangers have only failed to top their division for 5 of these 94 weeks. It is also worth noting that they have only ever dropped off the top of a division when the team above them have played more games.

With a potential 15 league and cup games still to play lets hope this is the last time the weather intervens this season

Luca signs on dotted line for Rangers……

The Rangers management team are pleased to announce the signing of experienced striker Luke Davies who has signed on the dotted line as a direct result of premiership neighbours White Knight folding last week. Rangers acted swiftly to get a player they have been tracking for 3 years as soon as Knights unfortunate demise filtered through. Luca’s experience and cleverness on the ball will be of extreme value to a rangers squad going from strength to strength as the season progresses while other teams around the county face the trauma of struggling to field a regular squad on a week to week basis. Luca joins fellow ex Knights players Christian Ward and Glen Noble at the division 4 leaders and it is hoped that he can have the same impact Glen and Chris have had since joining the potential triple champions at the beginning of this season.

The only downside – he supports Arsenal!

Welcome to Rangers, Luca.

After last weekends double blow of having TWO games called off due to waterlogged pitches, rangers are quite literally chumping at the bit to get back into action this weekend when they welcome Bexhill United III to the sports park. The sides met on the opening day of the season at Buxton Drive with the experience and quality of rangers shining through on the day, rangers securing a 7-2 victory.

Since September 1st, the youthful United side have been on a steep learning curve and have caused some upsets during the season, particularly on the road where they have made themselves incredibly hard to beat having earned more points away from home (13) than they have on home soil (9). From 7 away games, they have conceded just six goals. However, only on closer inspection does it becomes clear that they are yet to face the top teams in the division on their travels with Rangers, Herstmonceux, Guestling and Eastbourne Athletic waiting for United’s visit.

Of the 15 games they have played, they have W6 D4 L5 scoring 35 goals in the process (top scorer Mark Adams with 12), conceding a total of 29. This record sees them currently 8th in the league with the youngsters bound to be brimming with confidence after humiliating Mayfield 6-0 two weeks ago. West Hill United knocked Bexhill out of the lead cup in September while Guestling came away 8-3 victors in the Hastings FA Lower Divisions Cup in mid October. A trip to Roffey FC saw Bexhill rack up a hatrick of cup exits, losing 3-0 on December 1st.

Rangers will be high on confidence bearing in mind their last game was a trip (and a 2-0 win) to Herstmonceux with a bare 11 when a fine team performance on the day won through for the red and blacks. This game will be extremely tough as it’s a certainty that United have learned a great deal over the last 6 months, therefore as usual, rangers will need to apply the focus and professionalism that is required for the remainder of the season to earn another three valuable league points.

The Gaffers Match Report for the win against Herstmonceux is now up

Brace of games…..brace of victories…..?

Eastbourne Rangers strength and depth will be put to the test this weekend with 2 huge games for very different reasons. Saturday sees the red and blacks take on Mayfield in the league at the sports park while Monday night rangers travel to The Oval (Eastbourne United FC) to face Little Chelsea of division 2 in the Eastbourne FA Junior Cup quarter finals, 7.30pm kick off. Although it would be easy to be distracted by Monday nights cup tie, the management team are keen to convey that the bigger of the two games is definitely the visit of Mayfield as the quest for triple championships trumps any potential cup glory.

Rangers made the trip to Mayfield back in October when an under strength red and black side came away with all three points with a 3-1 victory. Since that day, things haven’t got too much better for Mayfield as they have only picked up 10 points from their last 11 league games, winning three and drawing once. They currently sit fourth from bottom in the division with a record of P16, W5, D1, L10, F22, A, GD25, PTS16. During this time they have also been knocked out of the Sussex FA Junior Cup by Hollington II, 5-1.

Little Chelsea are new to the East Sussex League and were thrust straight into division 2 based on the fact they had signed numerous ex county league players. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen as after a strong start to the season, long term injuries to key players and the frequent unavailability of others has seen Little Chelsea fall to fourth bottom of division 2 picking up a solitary point from their last 6 league games. During this period, Little Chelsea scraped past Hampden Park of division 6 with a 1-0 win in the Eastbourne FA Junior Cup but were also knocked out of the Eastbourne Vice Presidents Cup by Herstmonceux (score 2-1) in a hostile affair at the sports park in December.

Despite the form and similar respective league position of these 2 very different teams, these games will be a big test to rangers who are fresh from slugging out a famous 2-0 victory at Lime Cross versus Herstmonceux II last weekend. Team togetherness and discipline were key in this victory, and only with these two attributes along with acute focus can rangers expect to come away with two victories this weekend.

Rangers got back to winning ways yesterday with an excellent 2-0 away win at old adversaries Herstmoceux (Match Report to follow). Goals from the returning Glen Noble and Christian Ward (scoring Rangers 250th goal in all competitions) coupled with another excellent defensive display from the whole team was enough to gain a vital 3 points in the title push. Saturdays match saw Rangers conclude their fixtures against the other 3 teams in with a shout of the title (Guestling, Athletic & Ceux) When looking at the record the management team wont be overly happy but will recognise how vitally important it was to secure that final 'W'. P6 W3 D1 L2

The Rangers players and management would like to thank Herstmonceux for inviting them down to their local pub for some food after the game. Excellent sportsmanship lads.

Other results in the division saw next weeks opponents Bexhill win 6-0 at home to Mayfield, second placed Guestling keep up their impressive form with a 5-1 win at home to Peasmarsh and Peche Hill Select come out on top in a goal-fest at home to Magham Down 5-4.

Eastbourne Rangers amazing winning run came to an end on Saturday at the hands of local rivals and Division 4 title challengers Eastbourne Athletic. A typically disciplined and physically strong performance from the hornets was just enough to squeeze out Rangers, who were unusually wasteful in front of goal, 1-0 and open up the title race once more.

Guestling and Herstmonceux capitalised on Rangers slip up with wins away at Burwash (6-0) and at home to Bexhill (3-0) respectively to reduce the gap at the top to 3 points. Other results saw Magham Down win again at home to Mayfield 2-1, West Hill pick up a point at Peasmarsh (2-2) and Peche Hill Select and Iden drew 3-3.

M.A.S.S.I.V.E. Game………

Eastbourne Rangers look to gain a strangle hold on division 4 this weekend when they face local rivals Eastbourne Athletic at the sports park on Saturday. The sides thrashed out a 3-3 draw in the middle of October when a severely depleted rangers side came from behind three times to take a share of the spoils.

Athletic took a major scalp in the Eastbourne Junior Cup on the 20th October when they took division twos Eastbourne Dynamos all the way to penalties after a 3-3 draw after extra time with Athletic keeping their cool from 12 yards more often than not to secure a 3-1 victory in the shoot out. Seven days later saw Athletic return to league action when they welcomed West Hill United to the sports park with “The Hornets” coming away with a 2-1 victory in a very tense affair.

A week later, Athletic were possibly lacking in fire power as an away trip to a “strengthened” Iden II team saw both teams share the points with a 1-1 draw. A long trip to Henfield in the Sussex FA Junior Cup soon followed with the home side inflicting the first defeat of the season on the hornets with the hosts coming away 2-1 winners. Rivals Guestling II were athletics next opponents with an entertaining game at the sports park ending 3-2 to athletic despite the visitors desperate rally in the last 10 minutes to snatch a draw. A trip to Punnetts Town soon followed in the ADA Challenge Cup with the division 3 side marginally too strong for the hornets which saw a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes turn into a 3-2 win for town after extra time. However, Athletic were awarded safe passage into the next round despite the result as Punnetts Town fielded an illegible player.

The enforced winter break soon followed with athletics next game taking place in the first week of January 2013 where they faced a weakened Eastbourne Albert side in the Eastbourne Junior Cup with Athletic winning 2-1 after extra time – you can only beat what’s put in front of you and Athletic were ruthless…! Athletic then suffered a further 4 weeks without any football due to the weather which may have contributed to their match sharpness when they squeezed past Burwash 3-1 at the sports park. A tough away trip to Mayfield soon followed and despite being 1-0 down at half time, a change in formation saw Athletic pinch all three points with goals from Will Brooke and John Harold.

Last weekend saw the hornets suffer their first league defeat of the season at the hands of their bitter rivals Guestling with the home side coming from behind to win 2-1 at Bexhill Road on a quite appalling pitch which no doubt suited Guestling’s style a smidge more.

Athletic currently lie 4th in the league standings but have played significantly less league games than other teams in the division and have 3 games in hand on rangers who are currently 13 points clear of this weeks opposition. In their 10 league games, Athletic have scored 26 and conceded 15 with strikers Brooke (9 goals) and Lewis Decote-Green (4 goals) contributing with half of the hornets league goals. Defender Harold has also weighed in with an impressive 5 league goals from the back.

A very tough, typically tight, local derby is expected with rangers hoping they will show significant improvement defensively compared to the last meeting bearing in mind Athletic are the only side to put three past keeper Grant Smith this season. Rangers conceded their first goal in nearly 400 minutes of football last weekend with a 4-1 win at Peche Hill Select II which shows significant improvement at the back. At the other end, rangers will look to be as potent as ever with the divisions leading scorers Jesson and Noble looking to add to their hauls of 21 and 17 league goals respectively.

Biggest game of the season so far? Probably.

A win for rangers sets some real daylight between them and Athletic. But a win for the hornets not only brings them back to a stones throw of rangers (should they win their games in hand) but also brings Herstmonceux II back into the fold.

Early nights for one and all. And be on time to ensure a thorough warm up can take place before kick off.

Rangers battled against the biting cold on Saturday to secure a club record 9th straight victory (Match Report now up). A 4-1 away win against a good Peche Hill Select side maintained their 6 point lead at the top of the division. Although another solid team performance it was difficult to keep Rangers little wizard Ben Jesson out of the headlines after he scored all four goals including a 20 yard free kick which would have graced any football match, at any level.

2nd placed Guestling kept the pressure on Rangers with a 2-1 win against Eastbourne Athletic. The defeat for Athletic was their first of the season in the league and was welcome news in the red & blacks camp as if the hornets had one all of their 3 games in hand they would have been just 1 point off the league leaders. Herstmonceux got back to winning ways dismissing Peasmarsh 4-2 and remain in 3rd place. Mayfield won 3-2 at Iden, Magham suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Bexhill and West Hill got themselves off of the bottom of the division with a 3-1 home win against Burwash.

Rangers look for record ninth straight win…

Rangers will be looking to replicate the form they showed last weekend (and claim a record ninth straight win) when they travel to Tilekiln this Saturday where Peche Hill Select II await. The two sides have already met this season which saw rangers come out on top in a hard fought 3-1 home victory at the sports park with Glen Noble, Ben Jesson and Alex Barr claiming a goal a piece on the day. Both teams will be hoping to take part in their third successive game with Peche Hill sure to be very high on confidence after taking the prized scalp of Herstmonceux II last weekend after a 4-3 home victory.

Peche Hills form has been indifferent – 8 league games have passed since the last meeting of the two sides with Peche Hill winning just 3 of those games, also recording 5 defeats. Peasmarsh United and Bexhill United III thumped Peche Hill 7-0 and 5-0 respectively while two away defeats at the hands of Herstmonceux II (2-0) and Burwash (6-3) saw Select plummet to the lower regions of the division 4 table. Peche Hill then followed up 4 straight defeats with 4 straight wins with 2 of these games coming in cup competitions. Iden II were on the receiving end of a 10-1 thumping at Tilekiln in the ADA Challenge Cup while a week later, Peche Hill again came away winners against the same opponents in the Hastings FA Lower Divisions Cup, 3-1 the scoreline. This brace of wins had seen Peche Hill take this form into the league as a 4-1 home win against Mayfield and a 4-2 home win against Burwash revived their league form. However, on closer inspection, 3 of these 4 wins have come when Peche Hills front side have not had a game. Four weeks ago Peche Hills winning streak came to an abrupt end when they played host to Guestling with the away side coming away comfortable 4-0 winners while Peche Hill came from 2 goals behind 7 days later to grab a 3-3 draw with Iden II.

Peche Hill have played 14 league games and have registered 5 wins, 2 draws and 7 defeats and have therefore have acquired 17 league points so far this season. They have a goal difference of -19 (scored 27 and conceded 46) and although 27 goals in 14 league games is very respectable, the problems are almost certainly at the other end of the pitch. More worrying for Select is that rangers have scored 33 goals in their last 5 games, (conceding just 2) with half of these goals attributed to deadly duo Ben Jesson and Glen Noble – the divisions joint leading scorers. Rangers have had goals in them all season but more pleasingly in recent games, things have been tightened up at the back with 5 clean sheets in the last 7 games and not conceding in the last 370 minutes of football.

Some would say the only thing that could prevent another rangers win is the weather – unbeaten in 11 and 8 straight wins. But the back to back champions are far too experienced to take any game for granted. Rangers go in to the game having won all eight of their league and cup away games this season acquiring 43 league goals in 7 away games, conceding a measly 5. However, Peche Hill are bound to be buzzing after last weeks win and it’s a certainty that they will be looking for revenge on a rangers team that currently finds themselves six points clear at the top meaning it is indeed completely in the hands of the back to back champions with regards to bringing home a third successive league title. As ever, focus and discipline is required to earn all three points – this will be a very tough game.

Match Report from Saturdays away win at Burwash is now available via the fixtures Page

Dan Harmer February 19th, 2013 Latest News

Rangers secured a club record equalling 8th successive win away at Burwash on Saturday (Match Report to Follow). 4 goals from Glen Noble and one a piece from Christian Ward and Ben Jesson meant Rangers had scored 6 or more for the 7th time in just 15 games this season. A 4th clean sheet in a row proves that Rangers are getting it right at both ends of the pitch after leaking the occasional goal at the beginning of the season

The days result was made even better when news filtered through that 2nd placed Herstmoceux II had lost 4-3 away at Peche Hill Select II. This result saw Rangers lead at the top stretch to 6 points. This gives Rangers a little breathing space, space which will quickly disappear if Eastbourne Athletic win their 3 games in hand which would bring the gap between 1st and 2nd down to 1 point. Athletic kept the pressure on with a 2-1 win away at Mayfield. Guestling got back to winning ways and remain 3rd in the table with a 9-0 away win at bottom club West Hill. The other 2 results in the division saw Peasmarsh and Bexhill draw 1-1 and Iden II win 2-1 at home to Magham Down.

The Fixtures page has been updated with matches for the next 3 weeks. 3 more away games for Rangers, that will be 6 in a row, and 2 massive games against the only teams to take points of the red and blacks this year. Saturday 2nd of March sees Rangers take on Eastbourne Athletic and Saturday 9th March they travel to Lime Cross to take on Herstmonceux.

Rangers believe in double bubble at Burwash

Eastbourne Rangers will be looking to play in consecutive weeks this weekend for the first time since the beginning of December 2012 when they travel to Burwash this weekend. Burwash were humiliated at the end of October when rangers bagged a comfortable 3 points with an 8-0 win at the sports park. Since that defeat, ‘wash have been knocked out of the Robertsbridge Junior Cup by Peasmarsh United (3-2) but then picked up consecutive home victories at the end of 2012 against Peche Hill Select II and Iden II with the scores 6-3 and 7-2 respectively. At the start of 2013, Peche Hill Select II inflicted revenge on Burwash with a 4-2 win at Tilekiln but two successive away defeats at Magham Down (4-0) and Eastbourne Athletic (3-1) potentially sums up their consistency.

With only 3 league wins and 1 draw to show for so far this season Burwash find themselves second from bottom of division 4 on 10 points. They score on average 2.5 goals a game so the rangers defence will have be watchful. However, the rangers attacking force will be looking to increase the Burwash average at the other end with the hosts conceding 3.5 goals per game. Three consecutive clean sheets for rangers will bear no encouragement for ‘wash particularly as the red and blacks have scored 21 goals in the last three games with last weeks tight 1-0 win at Guestling being rangers most recent result. As ever, there is no room for complacency – hard graft and team togetherness is needed for every game to ensure the rewards are just.

The management team should have a fully fit squad to choose from this week so let’s hope the weather holds out after Thursdays morning’s early downpour – the forecast is now meant to be dry!

Eastbourne Rangers continued their 100% away record this season (7 wins from 7 games) with a hard fought 1 nil win away at, the then second placed, Guestling. The solitary goal coming from in-form front man Stuart Potter who bagged his 8th goal of the season and his 4th in as many games. That's now 7 wins in a row for Rangers and it helped to maintain their 3 point advantage over closest rivals Hertsmonceux II.

Zoo kept up the pressure with a 6-1 win at home to Mayfield. Potentially Rangers biggest threat could come from Eastbourne Athletic as should they win their 3 games in hand they would only be 1 point behind, a 3-1 win at home to Burwash made sure this was still a possibility. Peasmarsh may have let their title dreams slip by the wayside after a 3-2 defeat away at Bexhill sees them 10 points off the pace, albeit with a game in hand. Joining them in mid-table are Iden II and Peche Hill Select II who battled out a 3-3 draw and remain locked together on 14 points. Magham Down continued their resurrection from the foot of the table with a 5 nil home thumping of West Hill who's form seems to be going in the other direction.

“Under Pressure” rangers look to maintain lead at the top….

Rangers travel to Bexhill Road this week where they will face the daunting physical challenge of a Guestling team who pushed the red and blacks close at the start of the season with the back to back champions coming away eventual 3-0 winners.

Guestling currently sit second in the table just 3 points behind rangers but have played two games more. Since losing to rangers, they have notched up 6 league wins, 1 draw and registered a further three defeats at the hands of Peasmarsh United (4-3), Eastbourne Athletic (3-2) and Herstmonceux II (1-0). Their last league game saw Guestling thump a very strong Peche Hill Select “II” side 4-0 just two weeks ago. They still find themselves in the ADA Challenge Cup and the Hastings Lower Divisions Cup and will clearly be on the hunt for silverware this season. Guestling have managed a whopping 45 league goals this season and only rangers can better that with an amazing 54 – and that’s having played two games less.

Rangers have a fully fit squad to choose from this week with key players returning from injury, work duties and self inflicted exiles which will make squad selection very tough. And after winning 12-0 last time out, the management team are keen for the red and blacks to continue along in the same vein to cement their place at the top of the division 4 table.

Rangers look to do double over Peche Hill

Rangers will be looking to replicate the form they showed last weekend when they travel to Tilekiln this Saturday where Peche Hill Select II await. The two sides have already met this season which saw rangers come out on top in a hard fought 3-1 home victory at the sports park. Both teams will be hoping to take part in their second successive game however Peche Hill will not be looking to repeat the 4-0 drubbing they took from Guestling last weekend. Rangers will be sky high on confidence, as even though key members of the squad were unavailable, they still ran out 12-0 winners at West Hill United – a new club record.

The sides met at the end of September and since then, United’s form hasn’t been too great – 7 league games have passed with United winning just 2 of those games, also recording 5 defeats. Peasmarsh United and Bexhill United III thumped Peche Hill 7-0 and 5-0 respectively while two away defeats at the hands of Herstmonceux II (2-0) and Burwash (6-3) saw United plummet to the lower regions of the division 4 table. Peche Hill then followed up 4 straight defeats with 4 straight wins with 2 of these games coming in cup competitions. Iden II were on the receiving end of a 10-1 thumping at Tilekiln in the ADA Challenge Cup while a week later, Peche Hill again came away winners against the same opponents in the Hastings FA Lower Divisions Cup, 3-1 the score line. This brace of wins has seen Peche Hill take this form into the league as a 4-1 home win against Mayfield and a 4-2 home win against Burwash revived their league form. However, on closer inspection, 3 of these 4 wins have come when Peche Hills front side have not had a game. Last week Peche Hills winning streak came to an abrupt end when they played host to Guestling with the away side coming away comfortable 4-0 winners.

Peche Hill have played 12 league games and have registered 4 wins, 1 draw and 7 defeats therefore have acquired 13 league points. They have a goal difference of -18 (scored 20 and conceded 40) and although 20 goals in 12 league games is a tad modest, the problems are almost certainly at the other end of the pitch. More worrying for United is that rangers have scored 43 goals in their last 6 games, conceding just 3 with nearly half of those goals attributed to deadly duo Ben Jesson and Glen Noble – the divisions leading scorers. Rangers have had goals in them all season but more pleasingly in recent games, things have been tightened up at the back with 4 clean sheets in the last 6 games.

Some would say the only thing that could prevent another rangers win is the weather – unbeaten in 9 and 6 straight wins. But the back to back champions are far too experienced to take any game for granted. The hunger and desire to play teams off the park is there for all to see – most teams being 6-0 up at half time would have taken their foot of the gas – but not the red and blacks. In last weeks game they went on to add another 6 goals in the second half – a true testament to the rangers work ethic and ethos.

Eastbourne Rangers returned to league action for the first time in 11 weeks and the first game of any kind in 7 weeks on Saturday with an emphatic 12-0 win away at West Hill United (Full Match report now up). Goals from Ben Jesson (4), Glen Noble (3), Stuart Potter (2), Christian Ward, an own goal and a debut goal for midfielder Conor Middleton resulted in Rangers biggest ever victory beating their 11-0 demolition of Hawkhurst 2 seasons ago. The win saw them stretch their lead at the top of Division 4 to 3 points and also enhance their already massive goal difference up to plus 43.

The Red and Blacks have now won 6 in a row, scoring an amazing 43 goals and conceeding only 3!

Congratulations go to Grant Smith on making his 50th appeareance for Rangers. Smith celebrated the occasion by securing the 19th clean sheet of his Eastbourne Rangers career

Rangers look for first win in 7 weeks………! Gotta be game on……!

Eastbourne Rangers will be looking for their first win in 7 weeks this Saturday when they entertain West Hill United at The Sports Park. There is a possibility that this game could get switched to Old Town Rec, or even Bexhill Road should Eastbourne pitches fall victim to the weather.

With both teams almost certainly a bit rusty, this will no doubt be a tough game although on paper the bookies will be fancying rangers to come away with all three points however the bookies are not always right so every ranger needs to come along with the right attitude.

The two sides have already met this season when the red and blacks inflicted a 4-1 defeat on United in the middle of November in the ADA Challenge Cup. Rangers class shined through that day although initially West Hill were very hard to break down. West Hill have found times tough this season and were only a late addition to division 4 after numerous teams from divisions above had folded which resulted in many divisional reshuffles. United failed to register a point in their first 3 games but finally managed to bag a win in gameweek 4 at Swan Meadow when they beat Burwash 3-1. A break in league fixtures saw united progress in the league cup with a 4-3 win over Bexhill United III while they found it just a little too tough in the Sussex FA Junior Cup when they lost to Peacehaven Academicals 5-3.

West Hill then won just their second league game of the season 3-2 against a young Bexhill United III side while the following week Peasmarsh United proved to be too strong which saw United slip to a 5-3 defeat. Eastbourne Athletic then edged a win in a tight affair at the sports park by securing a 2-1 win while the next game saw United lose out in a bottom of the table six-pointer when Mayfield earned all 3 points with a 3-2 victory at Bexhill Road. Rangers then sent United tumbling out of the league cup with a 4-1 victory but two weeks later, United secured a 3-0 victory against division 4 whipping boys Magham Down. The celebrations were short lived however, as a trip to Guestling proved less than fruitful for United with the hosts bagging 6 goals with United unable to manage a reply.

West Hill’s overall stats in the league are P10, W3, D0, L7 F15, A24, GD -9 Pts9. At the other end of the scale, rangers are looking to extend an unbeaten run which stretches back an impressive 8 games. The hope is that rangers will prove to be too potent in front of goal for united and with 42 goals scored in rangers opening 9 league games; there is no reason to think any differently with regards to this fixture, should rangers approach the game with discipline and focus.

During the longer than expected enforced winter break, rangers have added three new faces to the squad who should all feature this weekend. Ex Newcastle United triallist James McGrath, ex Grasshoppers Old Boys Conor Middleton and ex Eastbourne Borough reserve skipper Josh Flaherty will be keen to make an impression this week should we finally get the go ahead to play the game.

Don’t be cruel weather gods, nobody wants to spend Saturday afternoons shopping anymore…..

Can we PLEASE have a game on…… PLEEEEAAASSSE!!!

Eastbourne Rangers are gearing themselves up for a long trip to Wittersham this week should the forecast snow stay away. This is another massive game for the red and blacks – a quarter final in the ADA Challenge Cup where the winners of Guestling and Eastbourne Athletic await.

After last weeks BITTER disappointment at yet ANOTHER postponement, we’re not holding out much hope the game will be on after Wittersham have already contacted us to say their pitch is a bit worse for wear. This is because this week’s opponents managed to play an ACTUAL game of football last weekend which consisted of extra time and penalties. We will find out of Thursday if their pitch is playable and if it’s not, we will be looking to switch the game to Eastbourne, not that this would necessarily help the quest for mud on boots!

A break in league action saw them play a trio of cup games, the first when they beat AFC Hastings for the second time this season; this time in the first round of the ADA Challenge Cup when they ran away 5-2 winners. Wittersham then had to switch their Hastings FA Junior Cup game from Wittersham Rec to Sandhurst Rec where Sandhurst took full advantage of home territory coming away with a 3-0 win. And then came last weeks game; a Robertsbridge Junior Cup tie that went all the way against Ninfield United II at Wittersham Rec where the two sides were deadlocked after 120 minutes, and only penalties could determine a winner – Ninfield winning 5-4 on spot kicks.

Wittersham clearly have no problem sticking them in the onion bag, 36 in 9 league games is a very healthy figure. However at the other end, they have shipped on average over two goals every league game conceding 19. There record is P9 W6 D0 L3 and they currently sit third in division 3 on 18 points. However rangers should not be discouraged, as even though Wittersham have disposed of the weaker teams in division 3 with considerable ease, they have lost to the better quality sides including the top two.

Should the game get the nod, rangers will undoubtedly be the rustier of the 2 teams but with two 90 minute training sessions under their belts by the time Saturday comes, hopefully the hard work put in over the last two Wednesday evenings will make it a more level playing field. As ever, hard work, commitment and team togetherness is needed for match day to bring away a victory.

New year, new signing.........

The rangers management team are very pleased to announce the signing of highly rated ex Eastbourne Borough reserve skipper Josh Flaherty. After 18 months out of the game, Josh has decided to join rangers in their push for triple league championships as well as all three cup competitions the red and blacks still find themselves in this season. Josh is a powerful, quick, footballing centre half and is also a very good communicator who will clearly offer the back to back champions a great deal of experience even though he is still only 23 years of age. At just 18, Josh made his full debut for Eastbourne Borough first team and with this kind of pedigree, gaffer Nick Stevenson acted swiftly to get his man to put pen to paper. Stevenson; " We are very pleased to have secured the signing of somebody with the undoubted ability and quality of Josh. We hope he will rediscover his love of the game with Rangers. We look forward to Josh making a big impact for Rangers this season, and for many seasons to come".

And when asked why he chose rangers over other local suitors, Josh explained "Rangers clearly have a good set up and are run properly on and off the pitch. The lads seem great, and I've only trained with them once but they were all very welcoming. Rangers have enjoyed plenty of success over the last few seasons and I have signed to help them achieve more of this success over the years to come".

Welcome to rangers, Josh.

Rangers look for first win in 5 weeks………! Game on maybe….?

Eastbourne Rangers will be looking for their first win in 5 weeks this Saturday when they entertain West Hill United at Old Town Rec. This has been switched to a home fixture to give both teams a better chance to compete in their first game….. for 5 weeks!!

With both teams almost certainly a bit rusty, this will no doubt be a tough game although on paper the bookies will be lumping on rangers to come away with all three points. And with nearest rivals Guestling competing in a tricky home tie against Herstmonceux, here’s hoping that rangers can extend their lead at the top.

Rangers would like to thank the management team from West Hill United for agreeing to switch this fixture to Old Town Rec; it’s good to see that some teams are willing to “play ball” in order to complete fixtures in any way possible.

Here, have some stats on the first half of the 2012/13 season.

Marc McKay January 2nd, 2013 Latest News

Eastbourne Rangers have a massive top of the table six pointer this week against local rivals Herstmonceux “II” who will be looking to do the double over rangers after winning 2-1 earlier in the season. A tight first half turned into one traffic in the second half with rangers keeper Grant Smith awarded the MOM at the back end of September.

History suggests this will be another tight game with results in the league last season saw rangers take first blood at Herstmonceux Rec coming away 4-1 winners while a "strengthened" ceux side came to the sports park towards the back end of least season coming away 4-0 winners against a severely weakened rangers outfit. I make that one a piece in league games last season, I don't know about you.....! Rangers also notched up a comfortable cup win in between the two league games when they ran ceux ragged at Lime Cross when they secured a comfortable 3-1 victory.

In the league this season, an opening day 3-1 defeat at Mayfield saw Ceux follow up with 3 straight 2-1 victories against Magham Down, West Hill United and "that" game against Rangers. A break in league action saw them travel to Burwash in the ADA challenge cup where the score was 0-0 at half time. However, they came out a completely different side in the second half and claimed a 5-0 victory. A return to league action saw them beat Bexhill United 5-1 at The Polegrove while the following week they dropped valuable league points at home to Iden II who came away with a respectable 2-2 draw. Ceux then scraped past Battle Baptists II (who ply there trade in division 5) in the Robertsbridge Junior Cup coming away with a 2-1 home victory. Peche Hill Select II came unstuck at Lime Cross 2 weeks later with ceux coming away with a “comfortable” 2-0 victory. Peasmarsh United then came away with nothing to show for tier efforts at Lime Cross losing 4-1 in the second round of the ADA challenge cup while the following week United inflicted revenge on ceux by coming away with a smash and grab victory at the same venue - a victory which ended ceuxs lengthy unbeaten run. Ceux then took the short trip to Magham Down which ended with ceux winning 7-3 against thier local rivals.

Coincidently, Magham Down were rangers last league opponents way back on November 10th when rangers ran out 5-0 winners. The red and blacks have since notched up three cup wins but everybody will be pleased to get back to league action this week where hopefully rangers can extend their lead at the top of the table over opponents who should be there or thereabouts come the end of the season. A win for ceux will see them joint on points with rangers, with only rangers superior goal difference keeping them ahead. Rangers have scored 42 league goals in 9 league games while ceux have put 25 in the onion bag. Goals conceded see rangers also superior in this stat having conceded 11 goals to ceuxs 14. Although stats serve some purpose to a certain degree, the only stat that matters is the last column in the league table so lets hope everybody is ready for a very difficult game this week should the game go ahead. Defeat is not an option!

With the pitches a bit worse for wear all over Sussex, there is a chance this game cold get switched to either the sports park or Old Town should Lime Cross unfit for use.

Lets pray for some dry weather......

And come on the rangers!!

Rangers second festive signing sealed.....

The rangers management team are pleased to announce their second festive signing to add further strength and depth to the squad in the form of Conor Middleton. Conor impressed in a recent performance against rangers for Grasshoppers Old Boys and after attending training a couple of times in recent weeks, the management team have acted swiftly to sign the former Eastbourne Borough youth man. At just 21 years of age, Conor has time on his side to blend in with the fine mix of youth and experience already on show at rangers and he has the potential to be a ranger for years to come. Technically sound and comfortable on the ball in all situations, Conor plies his trade in midfield or up front. Welcome to rangers Conor......

Can rangers win through in league derby??

Eastbourne Rangers look to gain a strangle hold on division 4 this weekend when they face local rivals Eastbourne Athletic at the sports park on Saturday. The sides thrashed out a 3-3 draw in the middle of October when a severely depleted rangers side came from behind three times to take a share of the spoils. Since that game, Athletic have remained the only unbeaten to in the division but have recently bowed out of two cup competitions allowing them to apply more focus on the league title.

Athletic took a major scalp in the Eastbourne Junior Cup on the 20th October when they took division twos Eastbourne Dynamos all the way to penalties after a 3-3 draw after extra time with Athletic keeping their cool from 12 yards more often than not with a 3-1 victory in the shoot out. Seven days later saw Athletic return to league action when they welcomed West Hill United to the sports park with “The Hornets” coming away with a 2-1 victory which also saw top scorer Will Brooke taken to hospital for a gash in his knee which required several stitches. Will he return this week…who knows?

A week later, Athletic were possibly lacking in fire power as an away trip to a “strengthened” Iden II team saw both teams share the points with a 1-1 draw. A long trip to Henfield in the Sussex FA Junior Cup soon followed with the home side inflicting a first defeat of the season on the hornets with the hosts coming away 2-1 winners. Guestling II were athletics next opponents with an entertaining game at the sports park ending 3-2 to athletic despite the visitors desperate rally in the last 10 minutes to snatch a draw. And finally, last week saw Punnetts Town show athletic the door in the ADA Challenge Cup with the division 3 side marginally too strong for the hornets which saw a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes turn into a 3-2 win for town after extra time.

Athletic currently lie 5th in the division but have played significantly less league games than other teams and have 2 games in hand on rangers who are 7 points clear of this weeks challengers at the moment. In their 7 league games, Athletic have scored 20 and conceded 11 with strikers Brooke (5 goals) and Lewis Decote-Green (4 goals) contributing with nearly half of the hornets league goals.

Rangers will be BRIMMING with confidence this week after last weekends 8-0 victory over Parkfield but will have to approach this local derby with SEVERE caution and the correct application if they are to come away with all 3 points.

Rampaging Rangers Pummel Parkfield

Eastbourne Rangers powered to victory on Saturday overwhelming Parkfield 8 (eight) – 0 in the quarter finals of the Eastbourne Vice Presidents Cup. First half goals from Josh Kyte and Ben Jesson sent rangers on their way to a very probable victory while a second half ONSLAUGHT proved just too much for division fives basement club. Jesson added a second to his tally just after the break as did nimble winger Kyte. Not to be outdone, Jesson added another 2 superb goals taking his overall tally to 18 goals which have come in just 12 games. Chris Ward and Glen Noble then added a goal each in the last 18 minutes to send rangers though to the semi finals where Grasshoppers Old Boys will be waiting.

In division 4, Burwash gained their third win of the season, defeating their out of sorts visitors Iden 7-2 while Guestling are now in second place following a second half hammering of West Hill United which saw them eventual 6-0 winners after a goalless first half. Herstmonceux now sit third after overcoming the challenge of Magham Down 7-3 in a thumping local derby while Peche Hill Select II ran out comfortable 4-1 winners at home to Mayfield.

All these results still see rangers still sitting at the top of the pile 3 points clear of nearest challengers Peasmarsh but a lot can change in the next couple of weeks with some intriguing fixtures due to take place if the weather holds out.

Watch this space…..

Eastbourne Rangers entertain Parkfield in the Eastbourne Vice Presidents Cup quarter finals at the sports park this Saturday, with Parkfield coming into the game having won just 1 of their 10 games this season – a record that sees them rooted at the foot of ESFL division 5 after 7 straight league defeats which has seen them concede 26 goals, scoring just 5.

The two sides met last season twice in the league with Parkfield surprisingly beating a below par rangers 2-1 in the first meeting with rangers inflicting revenge just a few weeks later winning 4-1.

Parkfields opening day 3-2 home defeat to Bo-peep Marina was later followed with losses against Eastbourne Royals (3-0), Grasshoppers Old Boys (5-1) and Westfield III (4-0). A welcomed break form league action saw Parkfield notch up their only victory of the season in the Eastbourne Coach Finishers Challenge Cup when they claimed a 4-1 victory at Icklesham Rec against Icklesham Casuals. They couldn’t take this form in to the league however, as table toppers Bexhill United II came away with all three points at the sports park with a 4-1 win while the following two away games saw Parkfield lose to FC Bexhill (5-1) with Icklesham Casuals II gaining revenge for the cup defeat coming away 2-0 winners. More cup action then saw Parkfield knocked out in round 2 of the Eastbourne Coach Finishers Challenge Cup when a trip to Sedlescombe Rangers II ended in a 4-2 loss while just last Saturday, Eastbourne Albert knocked a spirited Parkfield side out on the Eastbourne FA Junior Cup, 3-1.

Rangers come into the game on a seven game unbeaten run, a run that stretches back to the end of September with the only blot on the rangers book this season coming in an under par performance against Herstmonceux II.

The bookies would clearly favour the red and blacks this week but every ranger should approach this game with caution – ever heard of a story called David and Goliath….?

We all know what happened there…..

Marc McKay December 4th, 2012 Latest News

Eastbourne Rangers progressed to the next round of the Eastbourne Junior Cup after overcoming Grasshoppers Old Boys 6-2 at the sports park on Saturday. Josh Kyte opened the scoring on 21 minutes after combining with Glen Noble while Kyte turned provider 10 minutes later when he found Mike Pickard towering above the Grasshoppers keeper to give rangers a two goal advantage. Grasshoppers hit back after some sloppy defending just 5 minutes later when Joe Morris headed in at the rangers near post but Ben Jesson put a chance on a PLATE for Stuart Potter who restored rangers two goal advantage just before half time. After the break, Grasshoppers held out until the 68th minute when a moment of magic by Mark Hymans down the rangers right paved the way for Jesson to tuck away his 14th goal of the season. Jules Waters then tucked away a defence splitting through ball from Noble with Noble scoring the goal of the game 15 minutes from time, hitting an absolute rocket form 25 yards out to secure rangers final goal of the game. Anthony Allen netted a late consolation for Grasshoppers with a few minutes left on the clock with a deflected effort but the day belonged to rangers. Rangers will find out on December 15th who they will face in the next round when Little Chelsea and Hampden Park United come to blows.

In East Sussex League Division 4, Peasmarsh United climbed to second place after a smash and grab performance at Herstmonceux II. Ceux took the lead early in the second half but the away side scored two late goals to win the game 2-1 and take away all three points.

The only other game in the division saw Eastbourne Athletic race into a 3-1 lead at home to Guestling. But with the visitors snatching a late goal, Athletic found themselves hanging on for the final whistle with the game eventually finishing 3-2. With rangers lead at the top reduced to 4 points, all is not lost as Ceux II slipped up at home ensuring that they cannot now match rangers points tally should they win their remaining game in hand. Athletics’ result against Guestling means the game between Athletic and Rangers on the 15th December is MASSIVE with Athletic having 2 games in hand (and 7 points behind) over the red and blacks.

After last weeks WASHOUT, Eastbourne Rangers take part in their second consecutive cup game this weekend as they begin their quest for cup glory in the Eastbourne FA Junior cup against Grasshoppers Old boys. Although Grasshoppers are in the division below rangers, this will be a very tough game with this week’s opponents likely to be very keen to put one over on higher ranked opposition after losing out to lower ranked opposition themselves last week. This game was originally scheduled at the end of October but a waterlogged pitch meant the game could not go ahead.

Grasshoppers currently find themselves a respectable fifth place in division 5 and have had a mixed bag of results so far which started with an opening day 4-3 loss at Battle Baptists II. In game week two, Grasshoppers were on the right end of a 4-3 score line when they shaded the game at home to Victoria Baptists while 7 days later they had a more than comfortable 5-1 win against Parkfield at the sports park. Their best result of the season soon followed with a 2-1 home victory against second placed Bo-Peep Marina while they were then on the wrong end of a 2-1 score line when they travelled to Sedlescombe Rangers II. Their game against rangers was due to follow but was postponed – lets hope its not the same story this week!

Grasshoppers have played a further 4 games since the postponement; the first of which was a 2-2 draw with Eastbourne Royals at the sports park. They then dished out a 6-1 whipping of second from bottom Wittersham II which saw 2 consecutive cup games follow. They were knocked out of the Sussex FA Junior Cup at the hands of Peacehaven Academicals 5-4 after extra time while last week saw Old Boys were beaten in the Eastbourne Coach Finishers cup by division 6 title favourites Bexhill Rovers by a 2-0 score line. With 27 goals scored and 21 goals conceded in just 9 games, an entertaining game is expected this weekend should the fixture survive the current threat of the dreaded weather. This is Grasshoppers last hope of cup silverware this season so rangers should expect a very tough game indeed.

Rangers will be looking to build on a run which has seen them go 6 games unbeaten which includes 2 clean sheets from the last 3 games as well as 17 goals scored – with 12 of these goals attributed to three players – Ben Jesson, Glen Noble and Chris Ward. The winners of this game will have another local derby in the next round where either Hampden Park United of Little Chelsea await…..

Mouth-watering………?

Possibly.

Ceux “II” have gone on an amazing unbeaten run since defeat on the opening day of the season, with the run now stretching to an impressive 9 games – a run that rangers will be looking to put an end to. The Ceux “II” danger men will be Matt Wheeler who has scored for both the first and second team this year and recent signing Simon Blewitt who has been banging in the goals when he has been available to play. It’s important to note that only 3 players that played for ceux “II” on Saturday played against the red and blacks in September with most of the other players in proceeding weeks being moved up to their first team, who coincidently (for the seventh time in nine meetings) do not have a game this weekend. We should expect to see a few of these players again……

After an opening day 3-1 defeat at Mayfield, Ceux followed up with 3 straight 2-1 victories against Magham Down, West Hill United and Rangers. Ceux then scraped past Battle Baptists II (who ply there trade in division 5) in the Robertsbridge Junior Cup coming away with a 2-1 home victory while Peche Hill Select II came unstuck at Lime Cross two weeks ago with ceux coming away with a “comfortable” 2-0 win. Last weekend saw ceux coast past Peasmarsh United 4-1 in the second round of the ADA challenge cup.

Rangers came away with an identical scoreline in the same cup last weekend by defeating West Hill United but were clearly not at their fluent best. Rangers have been amongst the goals recently but should recognise that going into the cauldron that is Lime Cross will not be easy. This will be rangers toughest test to date with Ceux expected to field a very “strong side”.

Don’t miss this one, it’ll be a cracker…..

Eastbourne Rangers take a welcomed break from league action this week as they mount their challenge for cup silverware in the ADA Challenge Cup when they entertain fellow division 4 outfit, West Hill United at the sports park in a 1.30pm kick off.

West Hill have found times tough this season and were only a late addition to division 4 after numerous teams from divisions above had folded which resulted in many divisional reshuffles. United failed to register a point in their first 3 games but finally managed to bag a win in game week 4 at Swan Meadow when they beat Burwash 3-1. A break in league fixtures saw united progress in the league cup with a 4-3 win over Bexhill United III while they found it just a little too tough in the Sussex FA Junior Cup when they lost to Peacehaven Academicals 5-3.

West Hill then won just their second league game of the season against a young Bexhill United III side while the following week while Peasmarsh United proved to be too strong which saw United slip to a 5-3 defeat. Eastbourne Athletic then edged a win in a tight affair at the sports park by securing a 2-1 win against United while last weekend United lost out in a bottom of the table six-pointer when Mayfield earned all 3 points with a 3-2 victory at Bexhill Road. United’s top scorers are J J Blanche who has netted 4 times this year and Josh Carey who has found the net on 3 occasions.

Rangers should not let league positions cloud their judgment though, as United appear to have the best defensive record out of the bottom 5 having conceded just 18 goals in their opening 8 league fixtures. The hope is that rangers will prove to be too potent in front of goal for united and with 42 goals scored in rangers opening 9 league games; there is no reason to think any differently with regards to this fixture, should rangers approach the game with discipline and focus.

If the sports park is deemed unfit for use due to the weather, this game may get switched to Bexhill Road. At this stage of the season, it’s simply essential that we play as many games as possible before the semi permanent winter washout / freeze arrives.

Rangers produced an excellent all round performance on Saturday in difficult conditions to put 5 past bottom of the table Magham Down without reply and go six points clear of the chasing pack (Match Report now up). 2 goals a piece from Ben Jesson and the impressive Christian Ward and one from MOM Glen Noble was healthy reward as the red and blacks persevered with their footballing ethos despite a very heavy pitch

2nd placed Guestling slipped up by only managing a draw at Bexhill whilst local rivals zoo II kept up the pressure by easing past Peche Hill Select 2 nil at home. They are now 6 points behind Rangers with 2 games in hand. Eastbourne Athletic rescued a point away at Iden with a late equaliser to maintian their unbeaten record this season but will probably view it as 2 points dropped in the scheme of things. West Hill United, next weeks opponents in the league cup second round, lost a vital 6 pointer at home to fellow strugglers Mayfield 3-2 leaving them 3rd from bottom.

Rangers look to maintain Magham's misery........

Rangers make the short trip to Magham Down this weekend with the hosts finding life in Division 4 very tough after claiming just 1 point from their opening fixtures. Magham have conceded 20 goals in 6 league games having scored just 8. With problems at both ends of the pitch, these stats have not improved in cup competitions, where in 3 games they have conceded 13 and scored just 2.

Magham began their league campign with a 6-1 defeat at the currently unbeaten Eastbourne Athletic with their fortunes not changing on their own patch after a trio of home games saw them crumple to defeats against Herstmonceux II (2-1), Peche Hill Select II (4-0) and Peasmarsh United (5-3). A break in league action saw them get SMASHED in the ADA Challenge Cup away at Ninfield II with the hosts bagging 9 goals without reply. Guestling II then secured a similar result in the league imposing a 8-0 drubbing on the divisions basement club while Magham finally picked up their only point of the season in an entertaining 3-3 draw away at fellow strugglers, Burwash. Eastbourne Fisherman came away 2-1 winners in a tighter than expected game which saw Magham exit the Eastbourne FA Junior Cup while the Robertsbridge Junior cup couldn't provide Magham with their first win of the season either when they were knocked out by Robertsbridge United II, the result being 3-1.

Rangers will as usual be looking for a professional and disciplined performance this week as they look to maintain and possibly extend their lead at the top of the division. The red and blacks will have to put aside the 13-1 drubbing they dished out to Magham in a preseason friendly in August, as like rangers, Magham have since strengthened their squad despite their results suggesting this is not the case. Rangers will no doubt be keen to get back out on the pitch after last weeks washout but will still be sky high on confidence on the back of their last game, a resounding 8-0 victory over Burwash at the field of dreams.

Fingers crossed the weather holds out - there is a slim chance this fixture may be switched to Eastbourne should The Red Lion Rec be deemed unplayable on either Friday night or Saturday morning.

Rangers look to rule the roost at Bexhill Road...............

Eastbourne Rangers travel to division 4 strugglers West Hill United this week where the red and black army will be looking to flex their muscles even further after smashing 8 goals past Burwash without reply last weekend.

West Hill then won just their second league game of the season against a young Bexhill United III side while the following week, Peasmarsh United proved to be too strong which saw West Hill slip to a 5-3 defeat. Last weekend saw United narrowly beaten by rangers rivals Eastbourne Athletic 2-1 which has compounded them to third bottom in the table.

Rangers should not let league positions cloud their judgment though, as United appear to have the best defensive record out of the bottom 5 having conceded just 15 goals in their opening 7 league fixtures. The hope is that rangers will prove to be too potent in front of goal for united and with 37 goals scored in rangers opening 8 league games; there is no reason to think any differently with regards to this fixture should rangers approach the game with discipline and focus.

Eastbourne Rangers got back to winning ways with an emphatic 8-0 victory at home to relegation threatened Burwash. Goals came from Glen Noble, Stuart Potter (2), Ricky Curran, Julian Waters, Christian Ward (2) and Ben Jesson. Christian Ward and Ricky Curran both scored their first goals for the club with Curran having double reason to celebrate as he notched up his 50th appearance for Rangers. Top scorer Ben Jessons 10th goal of the season both maintained his position as the top hitman in the division but also registered as Eastbourne Rangers 200th Competitive goal.

Other Results in the division saw Guestling lose ground on Rangers with a shock 4-3 defeat away at Peasmarsh who climb up to 3rd. Eastbourne Athletic stay unbeaten with a 2-1 win at home to West Hill United. Bexhill won 5-0 away at Peche Hill whilst Mayfield and Iden battled out a 3-3 draw.

Rangers begin quest for cup glory……

Eastbourne Rangers take welcome a break from league action this weekend as they begin their quest for cup glory in the Eastbourne FA Junior cup against Grasshoppers Old boys. Although Grasshoppers are in the division below rangers, this will be a very tough game with this week’s opponents likely to be very keen to put one over on higher ranked opposition.

Grasshoppers currently find themselves mid table in division 5 and have had a mixed bag of results so far which started with an opening day 4-3 loss at Battle Baptists II. In game week two, Grasshoppers were on the right end of a 4-3 score line when they shaded the game at home to Victoria Baptists while 7 days later they had a more than comfortable 5-1 win against Parkfield at the sports park. Their best result of the season soon followed with a 2-1 home victory against second placed Bo-Peep Marina while last week they were on the wrong end of a 2-1 score line when they travelled to Sedlescombe Rangers II. With 15 goals scored and 11 goals conceded in just 5 games, an entertaining game is expected this weekend should the fixture survive the current threat of the dreaded weather.

Rangers will be looking to get back to winning ways after last weeks draw in the big local derby and with key players returning, the red and blacks will be looking to field a very strong match day squad which will hopefully see they through to round two where either Hampden Park United of Little Chelsea await……

Eastbourne Rangers showed great spirit on Saturday as a severely depleted squad came from behind three times to take a deserved point against neighbours Eastbourne Athletic. It was Athletic that took the lead after 8 when when rangers defended poorly from a corner but talisman Ben Jesson equalised just seven minutes later with a 25 yarder which nestled in the top corner. Rangers went behind when an uncharacteristic error by rangers keeper Grant Smith gave Athletic a 2-1 lead. Rangers hit back just before half time when the Athletic keeper could only parry a shot from Rob Anderson into the path of Glen Noble who tucked away the rebound from 6 yards. After the break, rangers immediately went behind again after failing to deal with Athletics directness from a long throw. Rangers had to be patient due to resolute Athletic defending with their patience finally paying off 20 minutes from time when Jesson bagged his second of the game to tie the scores at 3-3. Rangers lead at the top of division four is now just 1 point.

Other results in the division saw Herstmonceux II come from 2-0 down to take a point at home to Iden while Guestling beat Mayfield 2-0. West Hill United notched up their second league win of the season beating Bexhill United III 3-2 while basement clubs Magham Down and Burwash registered their first point of the season slugging out a 3-3 draw. In the remaining fixture in division 4, Peasmarsh United THUMPED Peche Hll Select II 7-0 to climb up to fourth in the league standings.

Rangers look to increase their lead at the top…..

Fresh from a comfortable victory last Saturday which sees rangers now 3 points clear at the top of division 4, the red and black army have an away trip to Court Meadow this week where they face an indifferent Mayfield team who had started strongly but have waivered in recent weeks.

After two strong opening performances on their own patch which saw them beat both Herstmonceux II and Peasmarsh United 3-1, Mayfield’s form has hit a rocky patch which has seen them lose their last three games. Their first away trip of the season to Eastbourne Athletic did not go well which saw them succumb to a 2-0 defeat while in gameweek 4, they were well and truly taught a lesson by a young Bexhill United III side, losing 4-0. Last weekend saw a break in league action for Mayfield when they again travelled to Athletic, this time in the ADA challenge cup, with Athletic again coming out on top recording a 3-2 victory in a ding-dong affair.

Rangers should be very wary of home striker Royston Curd who hit an impressive 5 goals in the opening 2 games for the hosts but with rangers boasting an embarrassment of riches up front themselves this season with 18 of rangers 24 goals coming from their 4 recognised strikers, Mayfield should maybe air on the side on caution when selecting their team this weekend as the league leaders look to take no prisoners on the hosts very large pitch…… every rangers dream!

Match report for Saturdays win at home to Peche Hill Select II is now up.

Marc McKay October 2nd, 2012 Latest News

Eastbourne Rangers returned to winnings ways this weekend after defeating Peche Hill Select II 3-1 at the sports park. Rangers took a deserved lead on 22 minutes when Glen Noble latched on to a clearance and powered past 2 defenders from the half way line before rounding the keeper to slot home his seventh goal of the season. Rangers had to wait until just after the hour mark to double their lead when Ben Jesson latched on to a through ball from Rob Anderson to tuck away his seventh goal of the season. Rangers then took their foot of the gas and conceded a sloppy goal and had to withstand 5 minutes of Peche Hill pressure. Rangers sealed the game with just a few minutes to go after Christian Ward found Alex Barr in the area who coolly finished past the keeper to give rangers a 3-1 victory. The Ginger Prince is still working on the match report but hopefully it should be up soon.

Glen and Ben currently head the Division 4 goal scoring charts after smashing in an incredible 7 goals apiece in just 5 games which equates to nearly 60% of the back to back champions goals – a quite simply devastating start.

Due to most team competing in cups this week, the only other result in Division four saw Iden secure a decent 3-2 away win at neighbours Peasmarsh United in an entertaining affair.

Rangers had a bye in the first round of the ADA challenge cup but now know their opponents in round two as West Hill United secured a 4-3 victory against Bexhill United III which saw a 40 yard wonder strike seal the game. Other round one results saw Herstmonceux II beat Burwash 5-0; Eastbourne Fisherman scrape past JC Tackleway 2-1 after extra time; Guestling beat St Helens 3-2; Punnetts Town THUMP St Leonards II 12-1; and Ninfield United II devour division 4 basement boys Magham Down 9-0.

The last result in the cup saw rangers next 2 opponents Eastbourne Athletic and Mayfield scrap it out at the sports park with Athletic eventually pulling through 3-2 winners. Please check out the Cup page from the top menu to see the full round up of results and the round 2 draw.

Eastbourne Rangers will be looking to bounce back after last weeks deserved home defeat to Herstmonceux “II” when Peche Hill Select II are welcomed to the Sports Park this Saturday. The visitors will be high on confidence after recovering from an opening day 7-2 away mauling at Guestling II as they have taken 7 points from the last 3 games which has seen them beat West Hill United 1-0, thump Magham Down 4-0 and secure an impressive point at home against Eastbourne Athletic last week in an entertaining 3-3 draw.

Rangers will be looking to put in a much better team performance this week which will hopefully see the rangers passing game on show for the full duration of the game. Even though it’s early days, it’s imperative that the red and blacks bounce back to take the spoils to ensure they do not give any ground to the other teams near the top of the table.

Eastbourne Rangers great start to the season was dealt a blow on Saturday as they lost 2-1 at home to long time rivals Herstmonceux II. Rangers succumbed to an extremely dubious penalty and an own goal either side of a Glen Noble equaliser but in truth the scoreline somewhat flattered the red and blacks, who were simply not at the races.

Rangers do remain top of the league but only on goal difference. Guestling maintained their good start with a 6-2 away win at Iden, Bexhill United III thumped Mayfield 4-0 away and Eastbourne Athletic could only manage a 3-3 draw away at Rangers next opponents Peche Hill Select II The battle of the basement clubs saw West Hill United beat Burwash 3-1 away whilst Magham Down remain rock bottom with another home defeat, this time at the hands of Peasmarsh 5-3.

Rangers look to make it 4 on the bounce……

After a sublime footballing performance on Saturday, rangers welcome local rivals Herstmonceux II to the sports park this weekend in what should be a mouth-watering encounter. The sides met 3 times last year with rangers wining 4-1 in the first league tie and also coming out 3-1 winners in a cup quarter final. ‘Ceux made amends in the reverse league fixture securing a 4-0 victory in a must win game against a severely depleted red and black outfit.

Rangers will be BRIMMIMG with confidence after 3 fantastic straight wins but will know what a tough test this will be so showing complacency will be a grave mistake as the visitors will be looking to compete all over the pitch for the full 90 minutes meaning rangers will have to apply themselves correctly for the duration of the game.

‘Ceux have made a solid start to this season despite being beaten 3-1 at Mayfield on the opening day. Since then, they have secured back to back 2-1 wins away at neighbours Magham Down and Bexhill based side West Hill United, which leaves them nestled in 6th place in the league table. ‘Ceux have netted 5 times this campaign (Craig Fears (2), Jon Brettany, Dave Leonard and Tom Goodey) and have conceded the same figure. Amazingly, they have already used at least 22 different players this term compared to rangers 17. With 14 of rangers 19 league goals coming from strikers so far this year (11 between Ben Jesson and Glen Noble), there is hope that the ceux defence will have a torrid time this weekend at the field of dreams.

Be there….or be SQUARE.

Rangers produced a sublime performance away at Peasmarsh on Saturday, coming away with a three points and netting 9 times to boot. The win makes it 3 out of 3 and puts the Red and Blacks 3 points clear of near neighbours Eastbourne Athletic at the summit of Division 4. Glen Noble celebrated his full debut by claiming 4 of the nine goals, with the others coming from Ben Jesson, Rob Anderson, Stuart Potter an own goal and a first Rangers goal for diminutive winger Josh Kyte. Full Match report is now up.

Other results in the division saw last weeks joint leaders Mayfield lose 2-0 away at Eastbourne Athletic, Guestling bounced back from defeat at the hands of Rangers last time out with a convincing 5-2 victory at home to Burwash. Magham Down remain rock bottom after a 3rd straight defeat, this time at home to Peche Hill Select II. West Hill also have still to pick up their first points of the season after going down 2-1 at home to Rangers next opponents Hertsmonceux II.

Can rangers make it 3 wins from 3???

Rangers make the long trip to Peasmarsh United on Saturday and for the second time in 3 games venture into the unknown. Like rangers opening day opponents Bexhill United III, Peasmarsh United are taking part in their debut season in the East Sussex Football League. Peasmarsh earned their first win at Burwash coming away with a 2-1 victory on day one of the season while last weekend, they were bought down back to earth at Mayfield (who top the league with rangers) finding themselves on the receiving end of a 3-1 defeat.

Confidence is high in the rangers ranks with 2 wins from 2 and 10 goals scored. And after keeping a clean sheet at home to Guestling last weekend with a hard fought 3-0 win (thanks to the heroics of the rangers number one Grant Smith) the red and blacks will look to keep things tight at the back allowing the free scoring Ben Jesson (who scored 4 in the opening day 7-2 against Bexhill) and co to take care of business at the other end.

Everyone involved should know that this game should not be taken for granted and the only way the back to back champions will continue their excellent start to the 2012/13 campaign is if each and every ranger applies themselves in the correct manner.

See you all there and lets bring the gaffer home 3 points!

Sandwiched inbetween was a 5th goal in 2 games for Rangers goalscoring machine Ben Jesson, his 21st for the club in just 25 games making him Rangers joint top goalscorer alongside Rangers playmaker Julian Waters. New Signings - Avengers Assemble

The management team are delighted to announce the signings of Glen Noble and Christian Ward from neighbours White Knight FC. After no fewer than three years of tracking the pair, the duo finally put pen to paper when rangers waved a bag of minstrels, the captains hairband and a pint in their direction. These are two superb acquisitions to the rangers squad and with both Glen and Chris featuring in some of the red and blacks preseason games, they will be no strangers to rangers "sexy football". Glen is a nimble front man with a keen eye for goal while Chris can be used on either flank as a quick, intelligent winger. Welcome to rangers you guys!

Match Report for Yesterdays impressive 5-0 victory over Eastbourne Dynamos is now up.

So after no fewer than sixteen training sessions and five friendlies, in just a few days time the season kicks off FOR REAL. With a couple of new additions to an already very strong rangers squad with most players coming through preseason unscathed, the rangers management team are looking forward to what should be a very promising season. After back to back titles in the last two seasons there is absolutely no reason why the red and black army shouldn't find themselves in the mix yet again come March time. And having entered three cups this year rangers will be looking to break their cup hoodoo when they hope to find themselves competing in at least one cup final towards the end of the season.

The squad have shown great promise over the last few months with things coming together on the pitch just at the right time. Fluent, neat passing football with plenty of pace has been worked on all through the summer and with performances bearing fruit particularly in the last two friendlies, who wouldn't want to be a ranger right now?

Exciting times for a club very much on the up!

Eastbourne Rangers entertained Eastbourne Albert in their third preseason friendly on Saturday with rangers losing out 5-3 to an over physical but predictable Albert side. With both teams far from full strength, and with rangers talisman Dan Harmer caught in severe traffic en route to the game (which saw him eventually turn back towards home), rangers were practically down to a scratch 11 when coach Marc McKay lasted just 2 minutes of the game after a reoccurrence of a back injury which saw another long term injury victim, Mark Hymans have to take part in nearly the full 90 minutes.

Rangers started off well with both teams setting their stall out early with Albert looking to hit their big front man as soon as possible either from long balls or throws while rangers looked to get the ball out to the wings and play some football. It was indeed some neat interplay down the right wing which saw Stuart Potter open up the scoring after 10 minutes when the ball was cut back to Potter to tuck away from 8 yards out to give rangers the lead. Albert hit back with 2 goals soon after with rangers failing to deal with aerial balls into the penalty area but Ben Jesson weaved some magic just before half time when he was bought down in the Albert area for a stone wall penalty, which Jesson expertly dispatched. 2-2 at alf time.

After the break, more poor rangers defending allowed Albert to regain the lead to make it 3-2 but rangers hit back almost immediately when Albert dozed off at a rangers corner which saw Potter stab home his second of the game at the near post from a Jesson assist. The heat was taking its toll on both sides, especially Hymans who decided to let everyone see what he'd had for breakfast just a few hours before midway through the second half!

Rangers continued to play football with Jesson given offside on two occasions when he'd clearly beaten the offside trap but with Albert at this point failing to provide an assistant referee, it was down to the referee to make some very tough calls which in turn potentially saved some Albert blushes. Skipper Dave Bennett-Tomlin found himself on the receiving end of a shocking challenge from the Albert centre forward, one which left marks above Daves knee - a 50/50 challenge according to the Albert players...... Hmmmm.

With Dave out of commission and centre midfield partner Jules Waters running on corona fumes, Albert notched two more goals in the last 10 minutes to ensure a flattering score line of 5-3. Rangers should take great heart from this performance, a lot of positives were on display which included Ben looking a constant danger up front and Stuart looking very decent on the right wing - not to mention the rest of the team who tried to play the game in the right way with neat, passing football.

Eastbourne Rangers continued their promising pre-season form with a comprehensive 4 nil win away at Battle Baptists yesterday. On a scorching afternoon on a pitch that looked like a scene from Jurrasic Park - The Lost World ("Don't go into the long grass") Rangers again looked dangerous everytime they attacked and miserly in defence securing a well earned clean sheet despite not having a recognised goal keeper.

Ben Jesson opened the scoring after 10 minutes, latching on to a Kieran Manning through ball to calmly finish past the Battle keeper. Dan Harmer put Rangers 2 up shortly afterwards after a Manning cross from the right was flapped at by the hapless Battle number 1 allowing Harmer to Volley in from 8 yards. Kieran Manning capped an impressive first half performance by racing onto a clinical through ball to beat the onrushing keeper and slot underneath him from 18 yards.

Rangers started the second half a little sluggish and Battle had a period of pressure but could not get past stand in keeper Tom DePlanta, who had replaced Stuart Potter at half time. Rangers got back into the game and dominated the final 15 minutes with Ben Jesson rounding off the scoring from close range to grab his 5th goal in 2 games.

Rangers began their preseason friendly campaign with an emphatic 13-1 victory against hosts and division 4 counterparts Magham Down on Saturday. Rangers handed debuts to new squad additions Josh Kyte and Alex Barr, the latter opening the scoring after just 5 minutes with a well directed header from a Julian Waters corner. Mike Pickard added a brace of thumping headers, both courtesy of two more Waters corners while Stuart Potter opened his pre season account with a cool finish from 10 yards after being slotted through on goal after a neat passage of rangers inter-passing. Ben Jesson carried on where he left off last season adding another 2 before the break making it 6-0 at half time.

The hosts pulled a goal back just after half time after a lapse in concentration at the back but further goals in the second half for rangers included an excellent hatrick from Luke Davies, a second goal each for Barr and Potter while Jesson notched up a third for a well taken hatrick. Glen Noble rounded off the scoring to announce rangers early intentions for the 2012-2013 season.

Although the opposition were not the best, this was an excellent performance from rangers with all the work from preseason coming together already. The ball was moved quickly and confidently with the red and blacks looking devastating when going forward and equally solid at the back.

Rangers preseason games announced

Rangers begin their preseason friendly schedule on Saturday 4th August with other friendly games booked in for every Saturday of the month with a fifth midweek friendly in August also confirmed against Willingdon reserves.

Saturday 4th August Magham Down Away (Red Lion)
Saturday 11th August Battle Baptists Away (Battle Rec)
Saturday 18th August Eastbourne Albert Home (Sports Park)
Wednesday 22nd August Willingdon II Away (Huggetts Lane)
Saturday 25th August Eastbourne Dynamos (Old Town Rec or Sports Park)

By the time the first friendly comes around, rangers would have squeezed in no fewer that ELEVEN preseason training sessions and it’s a certainty that every player will be chumping at the bit to get out there and prove to the management team that they have something to offer the back to back champions this coming season. Those that make training, work hard and show the correct application in all training sessions they attend will have a distinct advantage over others when it comes down to the crunch of squad selection for the 2012/13 season.

Don’t forget, only 3 reasons are acceptable to miss training:

1. Injury/illness

2. Work commitments

3. Family commitments

After 4 training sessions already completed, the turnout has been OUTSTANDING so far with the exception of 1 Saturday session. So keep it up boys boys

The East Sussex Football League have restructured once again for the 2012-13 season, this time dropping back down to 7 divisions from the 8 they had run for the previous 2 seasons. Dropping a division has resulted in the remaining 7 leagues (Premier and Divs 1-6) containing more teams. 5 contain 12 teams and 2 contain 13 teams. Is the decision a good one? I guess that depends on the weather as a poor winter will result in a fixture backlog.

Provisionally it appears that Rangers have been place in Division 4. A Division comprising of 13 teams detailed below

  Team
Bexhill United III
Bo Peep Marina
Burwash
Eastbourne Athletic
Eastbourne Fisherman
Eastbourne Rangers
Guestling
Herstmonceux II

The management team are delighted to announce the addition of two new sponsors to the rangers ranks – Paperlane and Chalk Farm Hotel. Both firms have committed substantial amounts of money to the club ensuring a new away kit can be purchased in time for the 2012-2013 season.

Paperlane has been an established business within Hampden Park for 19 years. This retail store is owned by Sam Chapman which offers customers the chance to purchase a wide range of items which include newspapers (newspaper delivery service available), magazines, confectionery, gifts, stationery, greetings cards and party ware. They also have in store a lottery terminal and pay point facility.

Chalk Farm Hotel is a small friendly hotel in an historic 17th Century building, offering a personal, attentive level of service in Willingdon. Owner Annie Smith and her team pride themselves on the beauty of their location, surroundings and ensure each customer has a great experience while staying at the hotel. They offer services to both individual customers and businesses in need of a venue, and have several function rooms available for a wide range of events. The hotel is also an excellent venue for business conferences and meetings.

We would like to thank both Sam and Annie for becoming part of the Eastbourne Rangers family and hope to see them at many club events as well as cheering on the mighty red and black army to a third consecutive promotion.

Rangers recently held their annual awards night at The Arlington Arms which saw every player pick up a second consecutive league winners medal with club captain Robbo receiving the East Sussex division 6 trophy on behalf of the entire squad from gaffer Nick Stevenson.

The gaffer also presented individual awards which saw Ben Jesson pick up the golden boot trophy (16 goals) as well as claiming the prestigious players player of the year title from his peers. Managers player of the year was awarded to Mike Pickard who was a rock at the back but also pitched in with a mammoth 9 goals while club vice skipper Dan Harmer picked up the 2012 clubman award after playing in every game this season despite having relocated a huge 125 mile round trip away. The gaffer also honoured assistant manager/coach Robbo who received a plaque “in recognition for outstanding contributions to the club”. To round the awards off nicely, Robbo presented a personalised “gaffer jacket” to Nick from all of the players for his continued work on and off the pitch over the past 3 years which has seen rangers secure back to back league titles. Long may the success of the club continue!

Rangers played a second friendly on Saturday, this time entertaining a Magham Down side fresh from finishing rock bottom of Division 3. Rangers again took the opportunity to take a look at some potential summer signings with no fewer that 7 of the 15 players that played not being Rangers assets. For the second week running Rangers powered home to a 6-0 victory. Alex Howell secured his second hat-trick in 7 days with the 3 other goals coming from Ben Jesson, Stuart Potter and Glen Noble.

Rangers will turn out one more time this Saturday before hanging up their boots for a well earned rest. Eastbourne Athletic will be the opponents.

The final fixture of the Division 6 season took place on Saturday with Herstmonceux needing a victory at home to Parkfield to avoid dropping back into the Leagues bottom division after just one season in division 6. Zoo did the business securing a 2-1 victory and condemning Robertsbridge to relegation on goal difference.

Rangers played a friendly against Parkfield on Saturday providing a perfect opportunity to trial some new faces before the season closes at the end of April. Rangers had no fewer than 15 players available, a far cry from the bare 11 they had for the last 2 games of their competitive campaign. Rangers comfortably eased past their old Division 6 counterparts 6-0 with most of the trialists impressing gaffer Stevenson. Most notably Alex Howell who scored 4. The other goals came from regular DBT and powerful striker Matt Dawes.

Division 6 champions Eastbourne Rangers finished their season in dramatic fashion as a severely depleted rangers side were knocked out of the ESFL Supplementary Charity Cup on penalties by division 5 champions, AFC Sidley (Match Report now up). Rangers started the better of the two sides and went 1-0 down after half an hour against the run of play when Ricky Curran was adjudged to have bought down a Sidley striker in the rangers penalty area. Despite the best efforts of stand in keeper Leon Pellow (who came out of retirement for this game), Sidley converted from the spot to take in a 1 goal advantage at the break. Midway through the second half, rangers made a tactical change up front which paid dividends almost immediately when Ben Jesson latched on to a through ball, rounded the keeper outside the area and slotted home to make the scores level after 90 minutes. During extra time, Sidley were holding on after rangers looked to finish the game off with chances falling to Mike Pickard and Jules Waters who shot just over and just wide respectively. After extra time, the game finished 1-1 and with the first 11 penalties being converted, the tie was finally decided when rangers skipper Marc Mckay failed to test the Sidley keeper from the spot ensuring a 6-5 win for Sidley on penalties.

In division 6, there were 2 games played. Parkfield preserved their division 6 status with a hard fought 1-0 home victory against Bexhill AAC II while in the other game Robertsbridge II overcame Eastbourne Royals in a seven goal THRILLER with Robertsbridge running out eventual winners 4-3.

Eastbourne Rangers FA Junior Cup run came to an end at the semi final stage after being edged out by a team ranked 5 leagues above them by a solitary goal. With rangers having no fewer than eight players unavailable for selection, Eastbourne Amateurs rubbed salt into the wound by firing in 2 goals in as many minutes just before half time leaving rangers shell shocked. The spirit of the division 6 champions shone through in the second half despite being up against a superior side in most areas of the pitch. Stuart Potter headed home a Kieran Manning corner with 20 minutes to go which set up a tense finale. Rangers arguably dominated the rest of the game with Amateurs eventually hanging on to a 2-1 victory. MOM was award to Ben Jesson – always a constant threat up front with both his ability and his tireless work rate.

Only 2 games were scheduled in division 6, the first of which saw West Hill United secure an automatic promotion spot after thumping Robertsbridge II 4-0. The only other game in the division saw Guestling II and Parkfield play out a 1-1 draw.

Congratulations to Julian Waters who beat Sam Weller to the £10 prize for finishing top in the fantasy league gameweeks 21 - 30.

Eastbourne Rangers finished their league campaign on a sour note which not only saw them suffer a 4-0 defeat at home to Herstmonceux II but also bought to an end an unbeaten run that stretches back 13 games. With the rangers squad severely depleted due to injury and work commitments, rangers had just 12 players available from a squad of 18. In complete contrast, Herstmonceux II came reinforced with a strong team as their first team did not have a game. Rangers found themselves a goal down at the break after not really being in the game with an injury forcing the league champions to make their only substitute after 20 minutes. An attacking tactical change at the break unfortunately saw rangers concede 3 more goals with Herstmonceux II running out deserved winners on the day. Rangers now have a rest week before playing higher league opposition Eastbourne Amateurs (who beat Polegate Town II 2-1 in the quarter final) in the semi final of the Eastbourne FA Junior Cup on March 24.

Other results in division 6 saw Westfield III snatch an away 1-1 draw against Bexhill AAC II and West Hill United secure all 3 points at Guestling II with a 3-2 away win.

Eastbourne Rangers travelled to Herstmonceux II in the quarter finals of the Eastbourne FA Junior Cup and came away comfortable 3-1 winners to claim their place in the semi final and stretch their unbeaten run to 13 games (full match report now up). With the hosts fielding a strong line up, rangers were expecting a tough game but found themselves going in 2-0 up at the break thanks to top scorer Ben Jesson and his strike partner Julian Waters. Rob Anderson increased rangers lead shortly after half time with a sublime 30 yard chip and Hestmonceux's late consolation came courtesy of some uncharacteristic sloppy rangers defending. Rangers will now face either Eastbourne Amateurs or Polegate Town II in the semi final on 24th March.

In the other side of the draw, an 88th minute winner from Paul Rogers for Langney, saw them defeat local rivals Eastbourne Fishermen in the quarter finals. Langney had originally opened the scoring through David Snashall, with the Fishermen hitting back via a James Stephanou goal. Langney now play Eastbourne Albert in the semi-finals, also on 24th March.

Saturday's game marked the end of an era, as it was the last game in a Rangers shirt for Andy Wells. Since being coaxed out of retirement by Robbo two seasons ago in order to provide some extra firepower to the red & blacks, Wellsy has been a Rangers stalwart. He has made a big contribution to the club both on and off the pitch, and his goals played a significant part in the back to back championship wins. It was fitting that as well scoring twice in his final game, the goals established Wellsy as Rangers all time top scorer. After scoring 20 times in 28 games, he has decided that it is time to hang up his boots again. His presence will be missed in the changing rooms, but hopefully he will remain a part of the Rangers extended family and will still be seen at training and on match days cheering the team on. The management would like to put on record their thanks to Wellsy for all his contributions to the club, and along with the whole squad wish him well for the future.

Westfield beat Parkfield 2-1 at home and Tackleway secured a 1-1 draw at home to Bexhill.

2 Rangers were honoured in the leagues player of the month awards. Ben Jesson secured Division 6 player of the month having amounted a STUNNING 4 goals and 5 assists in the four matches played in November.  Ben has been a revelation since joining the club scoring 9 goals and earning 13 assists in his 13 competitive games. Grant Smith secured the overall league player of the month having pulled off some quite unbelievable saves during the month of November helping the Rangers go almost 400 minutes without conceeding a goal. Grant has continued the unbeatable form he showed last year and has now kept a clean sheet in every other game he has played for Rangers. 28 games played, 14 clean sheets. Despite taking the plaudits I'm sure both would be the first to say that their, and the teams success, is down in no small part to excellent performances from each member of the squad over the last four games.

Rangers stretched their lead at the top of Division 6 to 4 points on Saturday after defeating local rivals Herstmonceux 4-1 away at Lime Cross. Rangers stayed top of Division 6 despite losing 2 nil at home to Parkfield. The Red and Black army simply didn't turn up and were a shadow of the side that battled to an impressive victory against Eastbourne Royals 7 days previous. Royals failed to regain top spot as they went down one nil away at Tackleway. The leagues only other fixture saw Rangers opponents this Saturday lose 2-3 at home to Guestling.

To quote the East Sussex Football League website "Stuart Potter was the star of the show at Eastbourne Sports Park, as his sides top of the table local derby against Eastbourne Royals went the way of Eastbourne Rangers. His first-half hat-trick for Rangers means that his side now take first-spot from Royals. In a 4-1 win, Kieron Manning also scored for Rangers". A great team performance from the Rangers included an excellent debut in the red and black for Daniele Kitchen between the sticks. Rangers now sit 1 point clear at the top of the division with a game in hand.  Full match report now up.

Other results in the division saw Robertsbridge United win 2-1 away at Guestling, Bexhill A.A.C won 2 nil at Hertsmonceux, Parkfield drew 2-2 at home to The J.C. Tackleway and Westfield thumped West Hill United 7-1.

Rangers got back to winning ways on Saturday with a hard fought victory at home to Bexhill A.A.C II. Despite going behind to an early headed goal Rangers battled on in the heat and thanks, in no small part, to the gaffer's change in tactics midway through the second half secured the win through a Kieran Manning penalty and a wonderful goal from wing wizard Ben Jesson. Not only was that the winning goal but also Rangers 100th league goal.

Rangers remain 2nd in Division 6, 2 points and a game in hand behind leaders, and next weeks opponents, Eastbourne Royals. Royals maintained their lead thanks to a 4-2 home win against West Hill United II. Other results saw Parkfield draw 1-1 at home to Westfield III and Robertsbridge earn their first points of what is turning out to be a bizaare start to the season with a 6-3 home win against fellow strugglers The J.C. After detailed negotiations involving a fruit pastille allowance, Dave put pen to paper deciding to join the red and black army to start enjoying football again and to help rangers push for back to back league titles and mount serious challenges for the Eastbourne FA Junior Cup AND the Eastbourne Coach Finishers Cup. Before joining Hailsham Town at the start of this season, Dave was part of the all conquering Eastbourne Galaxy squad of the preceding 3 seasons where his will to win and determination drove on everybody around him. The management team would like to take the opportunity to welcome Dave to the squad and hope the experience he has gained over the years of will benefit to the club.

Rangers went 2 points clear at the top of Division 6 yesterday after securing an incredibly hard fought 4-2 victory away at West Hill United (Match Report now up). Despite having Goalkeeper Grant Smith sent off after 44 minutes the 10 men of Rangers proved too strong for their Hastings based rivals. A Hat-trick from the rejuvenated Wellsy, putting him joint top in the Division 6 scoring charts (see League page), and a first strike from midfield maestro Ben Jesson was enough to bring another 3 points back home.

It was a weekend of strange results in the other matches in Division 6. Robertsbridge got THUMPED 10 -0 at Bexhill A.A.C II, Eastbourne Royals lost 3-2 at home to J.C. Tackleway II, Westfield beat Herstmonceux 4-3 at home and Rangers opponents next week beat Parkfield 3-0.

Eastbourne Rangers held their second annual awards night at The Arlington Arms where not even the weather could deter a barbeque being laid on by the hosts. After each squad member received their league winner’s medal, the individual awards were dished out. The winners can be seen on the clubs honours page. When official business was complete, each ranger had plenty of food from the grill to ensure their stomachs were suitably lined for the champions league cup final between Manchester United and Barcelona. Although most neutrals enjoyed the game, it’s fair to say that the “red devils” in the rangers ranks did not enjoy the game as much as the food as things did get a tad Messi! Our new sponsors for the 2011-2012 season also joined us and we hope that Gareth, Jane and family had a good night on us! Eastbourne Rangers finished off their campaign with a 1-1 draw away to Orington. A hard fought game on a even harder pitch saw the Rangers come up just a little short with some fairly erratic finishing depriving them off all 3 points. The job however had been done in the previous 17 gameweeks and with Herstmoncuex ending the season with a home defeat against Robertsbridge Rangers actually ended up stretching their lead and won the league by a massive 5 points.

One of the main reasons the Rangers had had such a successful season was due to their impenetrable defence. They finished the season conceding only 15 goals. The least out of all 8 East Sussex Leagues (81 teams). They also finished with the second highest goal difference (+37) The team has come along way since last season where they conceded 39 goals and finished with a goal difference of zero

The day was tinged with a little sadness however as the club said goodbye to one of the rocks on which their incredible defensive record had been built. Jon Butler is heading off to Australia in the summer and all at Eastbourne Rangers wish him all the best in the future. JB. You have been immense.

Saturday 9th April 2011 was a momentous day in the fledgling history of Eastbourne Rangers Football Club. The club picked up its first piece of silverware by clinching the East Sussex League Division 7 title with a game to spare. A 3-1 win against Hampden Park United meant that anything less than a victory for Herstmoncuex against Battle Baptists would hand the championship to the red and black army. Whilst celebrating the days victory over a beer at the Arlington Arms news began to filter through that zoo had only managed a 2-2 draw and therefore the winners medals would be hanging round the Turtles necks come the end of the season.

Other results in the league saw Guestling finish their campaign with a 4-0 victory at home to Hawkhurst to maintain their challenge for 3rd spot in their 1st season. Few would bet against the improving youngsters winning the division next year. Winkney finished their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Rangers final opponents Orington seeing them take a credible 5th place in the league.

The win, combined with Herstmonceux only drawing at home to the ever improving Winkney, sees the Red and Black MACHINE open up a 2 point lead at the top of the division with 2 games remaining. The two other fixtures in the division saw Sandhurst complete their 2010-11 campaign with a 2-0 home win against Hawkhurst and Rangers final 2 opponents go head to head with Orington coming out on top against Hampden Park with a 3-1 home win.

Rangers produced another excellent performace in Saturday's 3-0 victory at home to Battle Baptists (match report now up) to maintain their slendor lead at the top of Division 7. Title rivals Herstmonceux kept up the pressure with a 7-0 victory at home to bottom club Hawkhurst. This hefty victory meant Herstmonceux closed the gap in terms of goal difference between Rangers and themselves to 10 goals. If Herstmonceux continue to bang in the goals then Rangers will need to not only concentrate on winning their remaining three matches but also concentrate on winning them well.

Rangers slipped off the top of Division 7 for the first time all season on Saturday due to a 2-1 defeat at home to Robertsbridge (Match Report now added).  Herstmonceux's inevitable victory at home to Sandhurst saw them open up a 3 point lead over Rangers. Rangers game in hand and superior goal difference mean that it is still very much in their hands but nothing less than 5 wins from their remaining 5 games will do. Robertsbridge climbed into second one point above Rangers but the red and black army have 2 games in hand on the improving 'Robbo'.

The Management of Eastbourne Rangers FC announced today that they are pleased to have secured the signatures of 2 free agents to strengthen their team for the vital run in to the end of the season.

The players in question are Kieran Manning and Andy Knott. Kieran is a pacy and elusive winger who has previously played for both Eastbourne Borough and Eastbourne Town under 18's. Andy is a cultured midfielder who is also a regular in the Brighton University team.

The management hope that these new signings will give the team a timely boost and provide that little bit of extra quality and strength in depth as the club look to secure their first league title. The signings should also increase competition for places and keep the whole squad on their toes at this important time.

Rangers could only manage a draw away at lowly Hawkhurst yesterday. The only other fixture in Division 7 saw Hampden Park win 1 nil at home to Robertsbridge seeing them joing Rangers at the top of the league on 25 points. Rangers do have a game in hand and also still have to play their fellow league leaders before the end of the season so the title is still very much theirs to lose.

Dan Harmer January 15th, 2011 Site Update

Another week of poor weather saw the Rangers without a fixture again. The only game to go ahead in Division 7 saw Hampden Park lose 6-3 at home to Orington. A result which sees them still 5 points adrift of Rangers having now played the same number of games.

Even though they didnt have a game four of the Rangers squad headed down to the Sports Park anyway to take a look at the Division 6 clash between next weeks opponents in the cup quarter final, Eastbourne Royals and, potential semi final opponents, Catsfield. A fairly poor game remained at stalemate for the first 60 minutes before Catsfield took advantage of the wind behind them and hit 3 goals in 15 minutes to kill off a toothless Royals. On this viewing Rangers should have nothing to fear in the quarter final as long as they play to their potential. Royals had a big but relatively immobile back four and although they has a lively and pacey right winger offered little going forward. Hopefully the weather is a little kinder this week and the Rangers can advance to the semis and move another step closer to winning the first of 2 trophies this season.

A change in fixtures sees Rangers entertain Winkney Seniors this Saturday.

Rangers somehow managed to maintain their 5 point lead at the top of Division 7 despite their second defeat of the season, once again against the in-breds of Herstmonceux (I'm not bitter!) Other results went their way with Hampden Park only managing a goalless draw against the divisions whipping boys Hawkhust and Guestling were beaten 1 nil at Robertsbridge.

Rangers failed to score for the first time this season and will hope to make amends next week at home to Guestling by smashing in a hatful.

Congratulations go to ME for securing the title of Eastbourne Rangers FC 2010-11 Quiz Champion on Friday night. Commiserations go to Grant, not because he missed out on the title by a solitary point but mainly because the 2nd prize was a dinner for two at the Arlington Arms.

Rangers got back to winning ways on Saturday with an EMPHATIC 11 goal ROUT against lowly Hawkhurst. As well as securing their biggest ever win in the goal-fest, Rangers also secured their first clean sheet of the 2010-11 season. The win maintained a 2 point gap between themselves and Winkney Seniors who kept the pressure on with an impressive 3-0 win away at the suprisingly under-performing Battle Baptists. Hampden Park sit just 3 points behind Rangers in 3rd place after a 3-0 victory over Sandhurst. The most surprising result of the day came at Lime Cross as Herstmonceux lost 4-0 at home to Guestling. A bizaare result after they had, but 7 days previous, inflicted the first defeat of the season on table topping Rangers. Robertsbridge United's 2-0 home win against Orington completed a full programme of fixtures in gameweek 6.

Other results in the division saw Hampden Park win 3-1 at Battle, rejuvinated Guestling win 2-0 at home to Sandhurst and Winkney win 2-0 at home to Orington.
