The rangers 1st team debut in the Mid Sussex Football League didn’t going according to script yesterday as Nutley secured all three points.

A combination of woeful Rangers finishing and good goalkeeping from the away number 1 saw half a dozen chances go begging for the red and blacks in the opening 30 minutes.

Nutleys direct style of play was in the main being dealt with, but they took the lead with their only real clear cut chance of the first half with the away striker beating his man and firing past Martin Bell in the rangers goal.

Rangers felt hard done by at the break and things got worse 15 minutes into the second half. A needless free-kick was given away on the edge of the box, and despite Bell making an exquisite one handed save at full stretch, the ball cannoned off the bar and into the path of a Nutley player who tucked home the rebound.

Rangers continued to make excellent chances with Dylan Nanack, Will Gray and Steve Jackosn spurning glorious opportunities, but the latter did give rangers hope 16 minutes from time by rifling home a long range effort to make it 2-1.

After already ringing the changes in personell and shape just previous to the Rangers goal, the last roll of the dice saw Charlie Shearing enter the fray up front. But within 30 seconds of the substitution, Nutley broke away and with Bell making yet another outstanding save, he will consider himself particularly unlucky as the ball ricocheted into the path of the Nutley left winger who thundered home Nutleys third.

The pattern of the game continued for the final minutes, rangers looking threatening and creating chances but unable to be clinical in front of goal with a half chance for Shearing and a golden opportunity from Jackson the most notable efforts in the dying stages. With over a dozen excellent chances throughout the game and only one goal to show for it, this was the most disappointing aspect of the game in an otherwise reasonable performance.

The MOM was filtered down to two players in the end, with Bell coming close with an excellent display but the returning Ben Jesson just pipped the Old Dave’s Gourmet Burgers award.

Many thanks to Nutley for the game and good luck for the rest of the season ??
